The story revolves around three girls who grew up in the same poor village: Phuong Uyen Chi, Ly Quyen and Hach Thien Thien. They leave their hometown to start a new life in Shenzhen, going through difficult days when they have to live crowded in temporary houses, doing general labor jobs to earn a living.
In the original, the lives of the three characters gradually turn in different directions as each person chooses their own path.
Phuong Uyen Chi once had a fairly peaceful childhood when she was adopted by a well-off family. Her adoptive father was a local official, and her adoptive mother worked in the education sector, so she grew up in fullness. However, after her adoptive mother passed away, the truth about her abandoned background from a young age gradually revealed itself, disrupting her life.
Successive upheavals occurred when her lover betrayed her, relatives came to ask for help, and the supporting family also suffered a lot of pressure. From then on, Phuong Uyen Chi decided to leave her hometown to Shenzhen to start over.
Here, she does many labor jobs, from helping the kitchen in the construction site to working at the factory. Despite difficult life, the character still maintains resilience and is willing to help friends. Later, Phuong Uyen Chi and Ly Quyen opened a small shop and gradually stabilized their lives.
When her career progressed, she married a photographer and moved to Shanghai to live. However, in the seemingly most peaceful period, the character was diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo many surgeries. Despite facing illness, she still felt at peace because she had lived her best and did not disappoint her loved ones.
Meanwhile, Ly Quyen has a more difficult background. Her father had a work accident, and her younger brother was sick, causing her to soon have to shoulder the family. The fiancé who once wholeheartedly helped her unfortunately passed away while on duty.
After the shock of loss, Ly Quyen continued to work to take care of her family and maintain her loyalty to her fiancé's family. Her life faced many challenges, even being seriously injured in a scuffle.
However, the character still did not give up her efforts to rise up. After many years of doing business, she took over the business and gradually achieved success, becoming a well-known businesswoman in the community.
In contrast to her two friends, Hach Thien Thien chose a different path. With her beautiful appearance, she soon sought a wealthy life by relying on relationships. However, these choices gradually plunged her life into a spiral of instability.
After many upheavals, Hach Thien Thien lost both family and friendship. When material relationships broke down, she fell into a state of loneliness and emptiness.
Through the three characters, "Ngã đích sơn dữ hải" depicts a picture of the lives of young people leaving their hometowns to start a career in the strong development period of major cities. The work does not build a fairy tale ending but chooses a way of telling close to reality, showing the different paths that each person can take in life.
