Released at almost the same time during the April 30 - May 1 holiday this year, "Lat mat 8" by Ly Hai and "Detective Kien" have to face off directly in the Vietnamese box office market. Both have strictly followed the indicators of ticket sales as well as the revenue achieved after each stage.
Up to now, after more than 2 months of release, both films have been preparing to leave theaters with a sharp decrease in the number of screenings and tickets sold. Accordingly, each film only has about 1-2 screenings/day, some of which do not sell any tickets.
According to statistics from Box Office Vietnam, as of July 7, the movie "Flip Side 8" has brought in 231,992,289,909 VND in box office revenue. Meanwhile, "Detective Kien" won with 248,923,734,116 VND.

Currently, the producer of "Detective Kien" has announced the film's release date as July 11. Meanwhile, "Flip Side 8" has not yet announced information about when the film will stop airing. However, based on the low number of screenings, it can be seen that Ly Hai's works will no longer last long in Vietnamese theater systems.
Not only did it win against Ly Hai, "Detective Kien" is also Victor Vu's highest-grossing work to date. Previously, the male director had the highest revenue film, " Mat Biec" with 180 billion VND. The film also helped Victor Vu win the "Best Director" award in the category of Vietnamese Film at the 2025 Da Nang Asian Film Festival.
As for Ly Hai, "Flip Side 8" is considered a step back in the male artist's career in terms of box office revenue. The film's revenue is not even half that of its previous work - "Flip Side 7: A uoc Dao" - with 482 billion VND.

However, both "Flip Side 8" and "Detective Kien" are among the top films with good revenue in 2025. Currently, the leading Vietnamese box office revenue this year is "The Four Guardians" with more than 332 billion VND.
"Lat mat 8: Vong tay nang" is a family theme, revolving around a group of poor friends in the Central region with the dream of forming a dance group and performing on professional big stages. The work also tells the story of the journey to make parents find ways to understand, respect their children's wishes, and stand side by side with their children on the journey to pursue their passion.
"Detective Kien: The Unheard Project" exploits the theme of detective and horror, given the T16 label - only for audiences over 16 years old. The work opens with the legend of "Ma Da dragging pigs" in a highland village, where a series of people were murdered by Ma Da, leaving their bodies without heads or heads floating in the river. The mysterious disappearance of Nga (Minh Anh) - a young girl suspected of being murdered by Ma Da, leads detective Kien (Quoc Huy) to investigate.
