According to data from Chinese media, total ticket sales during Tet 2026 reached about 5.75 billion RMB, equivalent to about 20 trillion VND, down 3.76 billion RMB compared to the same period, a decrease of 39.54%. The number of spectators reached 120 million, down 67 million, equivalent to a decrease of 35.83%.
This is a remarkable decrease for the film season, which is considered the most important time of the Chinese film market each year.
Immediately after the holidays, the stock market reacted negatively. In the trading session on February 24, a series of film industry stocks fell sharply. Large enterprises such as Quang Tuyen, Hoanh Diem all decreased to the maximum amplitude. Some other companies such as Hanh Phuc Lam Hai, Kim Dat Anh market also recorded a deep decrease.
In fact, most large enterprises participate in film production or distribution during this Tet season, even many units participate in more than one project.
Analysts believe that the decline of the 2026 Tet film season may stem from the increasing competition of online platforms, changing the entertainment habits of audiences and the fact that works have not created the expected explosive effect. When box office revenue is lower than forecast, profit pressure quickly reflects in the stock prices of related businesses.
This development shows that the Chinese film market is entering a stage of adjustment, forcing film studios to consider production and distribution strategies in the near future. In the context of increasing competition between cinemas and digital platforms, adaptability to audience needs will be the decisive factor for the industry's recovery.
