Potential for community tourism development
In May 2026, Luc Hon commune became busier with activities experiencing conquering Cao Xiem peak 1. 429m high - one of the highest peaks in Quang Ninh province. Cao Xiem mountain climbing tour is designed for 2 days and 1 night, combining jungle trekking, mountain climbing, camping and exploring local culture. The route is about 4km long.
Mr. Phung Van Pau (born in 1996, Ngan Meo Tren village), a local guide, said that there are currently two roads to Cao Xiem peak from Cao Thang village and Ngan Meo Tren village. The travel time from the foot of the mountain to the peak is about more than 2 hours.

In April 2026, a model community tourism tour for Japanese tourists was organized in Luc Hon commune to survey and assess the development potential of community tourism in the area.
This is the 5th experience trip of Japanese experts within the framework of the project to improve the capacity of ethnic minority communities to participate in tourism development in Binh Lieu, Luc Hon, and Hoanh Mo communes.
Border tourism opens new development direction
Hoanh Mo commune has a border of more than 30.7km adjacent to China, located in the Hoanh Mo - Dong Van border gate economic zone. The commune has nearly 9,000 people, of which ethnic minorities account for about 94%.
The Dao community in Hoanh Mo still preserves many traditional cultural values such as Cap Sac ceremony, Kien Gio Festival, brocade embroidery, traditional medicine knowledge and trình tường houses. The Tay people are associated with Then singing, dan tinh; the San Chi people stand out with Soong Co melodies.
Identifying culture as a foundation for sustainable development, Hoanh Mo has developed a project to preserve and promote traditional cultural values associated with tourism in the period 2025-2030, taking people as the subjects.
The locality orients the development of ecotourism associated with nearly 5,000ha of anise forest, expanding the homestay model in Khe Tien, Cao Son, Song Mooc...
Mr. Vi Ngoc Nhat - Head of the Culture and Social Department of Hoanh Mo commune - said that in 2026, the locality will promote the advantages of the Hoanh Mo (Vietnam) - Dong Trung (China) bilateral border gate to expand the international tourist market, diversify tourism products and border trade.
