Then there are endless long days. As long as a clock handle, it won't move. A day waiting for test results. One day after receiving news of a relative's passing. A day of losing a job, losing direction, losing the reason to get out of bed. Those days are not only long in time, but long in mood. Every hour that passed was a scratch that added to patience.
But then, it will all pass.
Living a full day does not mean having to do great things. Sometimes, just don't give up. We are always eager for special days. But most of life is normal days, there is nothing new, nothing dramatic. So instead of waiting for a memorable day, perhaps you should learn how to make a normal day worth living.
Some people choose to start the day with a cup of coffee, a light song, then have a clear plan, every hour. Some people are slow to let the day pass, without goals, without noise, but still keep a smile when lying on their knees at night. And there are also people who, just need to wake up after a long sleepless night, cook a meal, or not get angry about something unreasonable, is an achievement.
There is no one-stop-shop for everyone. But one thing in common: We cannot extend or shorten time, we can only choose to live in that time.
A long day is not necessarily a sad day. It could be an opportunity for me to sit back with myself, to understand that the things that are painful to us today, may not be too important tomorrow. Just like a day is too short, it can remind us that time does not wait for anyone, so if you love someone, miss someone, and want to do anything, don't hesitate.
Some people have said: "Living every day as if it is the last day". It sounds dramatic, but if you understand it more gently, live in such a way that if tomorrow had not come, you would not have wasted today.
So, whether your day is as long as a century or as a blink of an eye, let it pass in your full presence. Present in every sighing, in every cup of tea, or just the feeling of the sun and wind while sitting on the balcony.
A long time will pass. But if you live your best, it will not go unsuccessful.
