Hung BlackhearteD (real name Nguyen Tien Hung) has just been selected by the Recording Academy (Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) to become an official member. In his new role, he will participate in the organization's activities and have the right to vote in the categories of the Grammy Awards.
Behind this milestone is more than 10 years of activity in the field of music and cinema in Vietnam as well as the United States.
Born in Ho Chi Minh City, Hung BlackhearteD studied Industrial Arts at Pierce College before graduating with a major in Directing from the New York Film Academy (USA). In addition to his role as a singer and musician, he can also play many musical instruments such as guitar, piano and琵琶.
Hung BlackhearteD's name is associated with the band Black Infinity, where he takes on the role of leader. Founded in the late 2000s, Black Infinity pursued heavy metal and has released many albums, EPs, and performed in Vietnam, the US and Europe.
In parallel with performing activities, the male artist founded the record label Young Guns Records, participated in music production and developed projects for independent artists.
In 2025, Hung BlackhearteD continues to introduce the Dạ Ma project. The band pursues fusion rock, combining modern rock with Vietnamese cultural materials such as folk songs from three regions, traditional musical instruments and ao dai images.
According to the male rocker, Da Ma's goal is not only to create music but also to contribute to bringing Vietnamese cultural identity to international audiences through rock language.
After about a year of operation, Dạ Ma has performed at famous rock stages in the US such as Whisky a Go Go and House of Blues. The group also released the songs "Dạ ma thiên", "Bèo dạt mây trôi", "Trống cơm" and "Duyên". Among them, "Duyên" and "Trống cơm" have been approved by the Grammy Council to participate in the 2027 Grammy selection round.
Sharing about becoming a member of Recording Academy, Hung BlackhearteD said that the review process is not based on popularity or number of listeners, but comprehensively assesses the artist's career path. His profile is considered from products with Black Infinity, personal projects, Young Guns Records to the development process of Da Ma.
The male rocker said that becoming a member of the Recording Academy is an honor, and also a great responsibility to participate in voting at one of the most prestigious music awards in the world.
He hopes this milestone will open up more opportunities to connect with the international music community, and at the same time contribute to introducing projects that bring Vietnamese identity closer to global audiences.
Currently, Hung BlackhearteD is one of the few Vietnamese artists named in the Recording Academy membership system, along with faces who have made their mark at the Grammys such as Sangeeta Kaur, Cuong Vu, director Bao Nguyen and producer Duy Tran. With the right to participate in the Grammy voting, the male rocker continues to pursue the goal of developing Vietnamese-colored music projects in the international market.
