When audiences go to the cinema not just to watch movies
The Vietnamese film market is going through a period of stagnation, when the number of newly released films is limited and box office revenue has not met expectations. In that context, a new trend is emerging and attracting significant attention from Vietnamese audiences: Shows outside of films.
Not stopping at showing movies, Vietnamese cinemas are organizing Viewing Party - sessions to watch TV shows, sports events, music live shows or special events together, opening up diverse and new entertainment experiences for viewers.
Typically, in the last week of October and early November, the community of e-sports fans around the world was bustling before the World Final tournament of the Huyen Thoai Alliance game. Most Viewing Party screenings at Vietnamese theaters recorded a significant audience.
Notably, in the final match on November 9, all 9 screenings at the CGV Theater in Hanoi at 2pm were full just a few minutes after opening for sale. Similarly, the rate of audiences filling theaters in Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces and cities is also much higher than that of cinematic works shown at the same time frame.
Or from November 11, G-Dragon In Cinema: Overmensch - footage recording impressive performances in G-Dragons world tour Übermensch officially debuted in Vietnamese theaters. The show quickly led the box office revenue with more than 1 billion VND after the first day of release. The audience made an appointment to go to the cinema together to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere, "burning" themselves out with their idols on the big screen.
From the above evidence, it can be seen that audiences now not only go to the cinema to watch movies. Many people come to the cinema to enjoy live concerts with vivid sound and image quality, participate in group shows for activities, and interact with people with similar interests.
Not only does it increase revenue and attract audiences, the diversity of theatrical performances also enhances the entertainment experience, turning the cinema into an ideal destination for those who want to enjoy culture, music, sports and meet the community.
In the context of an unstable film market, it is these non-cinematic screenings that are becoming a "savior" for cinemas, while creating rich and new experiences for Vietnamese audiences. Therefore, cinemas are gradually becoming a multi-functional entertainment destination, instead of just a place to enjoy movies like before.
The theater market has not improved
After a gloomy October, the Vietnamese theater market in the first half of November did not have much improvement. Since the beginning of the month, a series of international films have been released such as "Invisible Monster", "Story of Powerfully" , "Ghost of Love", "The specter of Love", "The specter of Love" ... but have not brought in good box office revenue.
On November 14, the Vietnamese film "Truy dung Dien Dien" by director Duong Minh Chien was officially released. The film is an action, comedy genre, featuring Quang Tuan, Ma Ran Do, People's Artist Thanh Nam, Nguyen Thao... On the early screening day of November 13, the film earned nearly 1 billion VND in box office revenue. Although not an impressive number, the work is expected to bring a new breeze to Vietnamese theaters in November.
On the other hand, from now until the end of the month, the box office market will be more vibrant with many new works from Vietnamese and international cinema. For Vietnamese films alone, there are 4 works including: "Getting Married for Father" (November 21), "Money Trap" (November 21), "Ghost League room" (November 28) and "Quan Ky Nam" (November 28).
In addition, Korean cinema sent two hit films, Oan Duong Trong Suitcase and Anh Trai Say Xe. Another Vietnamese-Korean film is also expected to be released later this month, The Market of the Devil.
Dedicated to young audiences, the upcoming series of cartoons and children includes: "Tafiti Chaos of the desert", "Zootopia: Scandal of the Sky 2", "Wicked 2: For Good"...
With the consecutive release of a series of cinematic works in the next 2 weeks, theaters expect to gradually improve, creating opportunities for the audience to regain their excitement when going to the cinema.
