On September 5, Taiwanese (Chinese) star Thu Ky officially debuted as a director at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, when her first film as director and screenwriter, Girl (Girl) had a global premiere on Lido Island.
After the film premiere, Thu Ky was moved to tears in front of the endless applause from the audience at the stage. The video of the female star crying constantly while being cheered by the audience caused a storm on social networks.
At the press conference, talking about her first time as a director, Thu Ky shared: "I feel that the pressure of directing is really huge. When I was an actor, I only focused on acting and took care of my appearance. But after becoming a director, the feeling was very different.
Before the film's release, I couldn't think about what to wear, what to do with makeup, hair or clothes. I only think about how the audience will react when watching the film, will someone tell me directly whether they don't like the work or not? I was overwhelmed by this inexorable pressure, it put me back into a state of insecurity before filming.

The film Girl is set in Taiwan (China) from the late 1980s to early 1990s, depicting the turbulent days in the life of female student Tieu Le (played by Bai Xiao Ying), the conflicts and difficulties that families and individuals face in the process of industrialization and modernization of society.
Thu Ky has included her own childhood experiences in her works, reflecting in scenes of domestic violence, or the harsh sounds in a poor family.
According to Thu Ky, her creative motivation is to encourage the strength, maturity and independence of female characters.
Many media agencies, when watching the audition, noticed that the film "Girl" cleverly incorporated Thu Ky's gratitude to her teacher - director Hau Hieu Hien - who had a great influence in Thu Ky's acting career through the works "Thien hi ban ba", "Thien dep nhat nhat", "Thien thuong Nghiep "nung" in which she played the main character.
Thu Ky expressed her gratitude to director Hau Hieu Hien: "Without your encouragement, I probably wouldn't have dared to take this step."
Thu Ky has walked the red carpet of the world's biggest film festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Venice, both as an actress and judge. But this year, she has a new mindset when she was shortlisted for the main prize of the Golden dead of the Venice Film Festival as her first director.
As a work by the new director, Girl cannot avoid mixed reviews. However, this was still an important turning point in Thu Ky's career.
