Experts and filmmakers expect cooperation opportunities between Vietnamese and US cinema in the field of film production.

The Vietnam Cinema Development Promotion Association (VFDA) has just organized a series of important activities in the US, including the Vietnam - US Film Production Cooperation Roundtable in Los Angeles and the premiere of the film "Rain on the butterfly" at the headquarters of the American Film Association (MPA) in Washington.

These events are part of the Vietnamese cinema promotion program at the My to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the US.

Leading the VFDA working group was Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan - Chairman of VFDA, former Director of the Department of Cinema, with the goal of enhancing connectivity, expanding international cooperation and promoting the Vietnamese film industry.

The roundtable was attended by the Consulate General of Vietnam in San Francisco, Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan - President of VFDA, representatives of studios, film production companies and organizations interested in the Vietnamese market.

At the event, experts discussed cooperation opportunities between Vietnam and the US in the field of film production, including exploiting Vietnamese set advantage, support policies from the government, and the potential for developing the post-term industry.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Consul General of Vietnam in San Francisco emphasized: "With unique natural landscapes, diverse cultures and increasingly open support policies, Vietnam is gradually affirming its position as an attractive destination for international filmmakers. The Vietnamese government is committed to creating the most favorable conditions to attract film projects, and at the same time, it hopes to listen to opinions from US partners on important factors that help Vietnam become a global film production center".

Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, Chairman of VFDA, shared: "Vietnam has unique natural landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and talented human resources. However, since "Kong: Skull Island", Vietnam has not welcomed any more big projects from Hollywood. This time, VFDA hopes to narrow the gap between domestic and foreign filmmakers, connecting them with localities to promote film production in Vietnam. We not only promote the image of Vietnam but also want to connect domestic and foreign partners, promote production cooperation and put Vietnam on the global cinema map".

Recently, a number of Vietnamese films have been shown in the US, helping the market share of Vietnamese films increase from 30% to 44%. Ms. Ngo Phuong Lan believes that if there is production cooperation between Vietnam and Hollywood, this number will continue to increase, opening up great opportunities for Vietnamese cinema to reach out to the world.

The VFDA working group also had a working session with senior leaders of Sony Pictures to discuss opportunities for film production cooperation in Vietnam.

Sony Pictures President - Mr. Sanford Panitch expressed his interest in Vietnam's potential but emphasized that financial incentives, simplifying censorship procedures and improving post-production quality will be important factors for Hollywood to consider investing.
