On March 9, the Korean film industry said that director Kim Han Min - who is behind many famous historical works such as "War of the Arrows" (2011), "The Admiral: Roaring Currents" (2014), "Hansan: Rising Dragon" (2022) and "Noryang: Deadly Sea" (2023) - has officially started filming a new film project called "Blade: The Sword of Godumakhan" temporarily translated as "Godumakhan's Sword" from March 3.
This is an action-historical blockbuster set in the chaotic period after the collapse of the Goguryeo kingdom.
The story revolves around a memory-deprived man who is turned into a slave and forced to enter a fierce swordplay tournament revolving around the legendary sword Godumakhan.
The film gathers a prominent cast including Park Bo Gum, Joo Won, Jung Jae Young, Lee Sun Bin and actor Tran Thanh from Vietnam.
In this work, Park Bo Gum plays Chil Seong - a memory-deprived warrior. After Goguryeo's collapse, the character is pushed into the arena of slavery and has to fight to survive without knowing his true past.
The role is expected to mark a turning point in Park Bo Gum's acting when he portrays the image of a warrior with steadfast eyes and skillful sword fights even in the harshest circumstances.

Notably, actor Tran Thanh will play Xue Rengui, commander of An Dong Palace under the Tang Dynasty.
Besides, Kim Jae Chul - who once attracted attention in the movie "Exhuma" - plays strategist Khitan Ye Yyul.
According to the plan, "Blade: The Sword of Godumakhan" is expected to be released to audiences in 2027.
The film is produced by Big Stone Pictures and Blue Fire Studio, with Red Ice Entertainment in charge of investment and distribution, and the investment participation of Solaire Partners.
With an experienced production team and an international cast, the project is expected to become one of the notable historical blockbusters of Korean cinema in the coming years.
