The audience often remember him for his villainous roles. But behind the camera, he holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel of the Police and is a exemplary father of four. Is it difficult for you to transform into characters with other lives?
- After nearly 34 years of working in the acting profession, I am a professionally trained actor. I always consider each role as a creative journey in work to help support myself and my family. Outside the lens, I return to myself. The character has his own life. I have my own life, I can't mix or replace it.
The only thing this job can affect is the economy, when I don't do well, the invitations will gradually decrease. For me, the job is a passion, but it is also a source of income that helps me and my family reduce hardship.
In your journey with the Public Security industry, which memories do you want to share the most?
- Perhaps the most memorable memory I have is the first day I wore the police uniform with the rank of Major. It felt both fun and strange at that time. I feel more mature in my thinking, more mature in every step and above all, a deep sense of responsibility for life and the path I have chosen.
On the journey through many fates on screen, which role will you remember forever?
- I started acting in 1992. Now, both on television and on stage, I have transformed into many characters that are uncountable. Each role has its own fate, in different historical situations. Therefore, each character leaves very different emotions.
There are roles that, right at that time, I have a strong feeling for, but over time, that feeling gradually subsides. Occasionally, when I happen to look back, I think: If I had to do it again, I would probably act differently.
I often focus on new roles, rarely paying attention to old roles. An attractive film, a role that is as successful as it is, will fade over time. My colleagues and I tried our best with new roles to serve the audience.
People say the acting profession has many glory but also a lot of pressure, have you experienced any memorable difficult periods?
- What is really happy? Choosing a career or profession is ultimately because of suitability, love and passion.
For me, acting is the first way to make a living, so that I can focus all my efforts on doing well, hoping to receive many invitations and have more finances to cover my family's living expenses.
I have 4 children, so each project I receive is a joy. There is no industry pressure, but with nearly 34 years of experience, I believe I have enough experience and courage to overcome all challenges.
Leaving behind the stage and screen lights, when returning to his home, how did his family affect the way he felt and lived with the profession?
- I always try to balance everything. When my family needed it, I was willing to put my work on hold, temporarily taking the stage lights off to focus on my home. When everything was stable, I returned to my job and continued to live with my passion.
As a father of four, what strengths and limitations do you realize you have?
- Whether you are a father of one or four, you all have your own strengths and weaknesses. For me, my strength is accumulating more experience in raising children. In the past, when I had just given birth, every time my child was hot, I was worried and worried. Now, I am calmer, know how to monitor, observe and judge to decide when to take my child to the doctor.
It is easy to see the disadvantage when the family has many children, which means I have to spend more time working to make a living, so I rarely get to be with the children.
That is why, every Saturday and Sunday off, my wife and I always devote ourselves to our family. I take my children out, gather and enjoy precious moments together.
In the upcoming journey, can you reveal which art project you are cherishing?
- I have just completed a project of the People's Public Security Cinema and am starting a new project of VFC (Vietnam Television Film Center). However, due to specific principles and regulations, I cannot disclose details at this time. Surely, before the film airs, the audience will know the official information. I hope you Vietnamese film lovers will wait and watch, I believe it will not disappoint everyone.
Thank you!
