Returning to the screen with a legitimate, gentle role in ut Lan: Oan Linh Duong, can you share about this special fate?
- I accepted the role of Son because I wanted to show another aspect that the audience rarely saw in me. Many people say I can only play a villain, not play a gentle role. But I wanted to change that mindset, that I could play upright, kind characters. Actually, I was a bit "excited" when playing the villain role too much. Therefore, I also want to try a different type of role, then I can return to my strengths. I think playing a good role is also my "dwelling place", but I can't play a bad role forever.
When playing Son, I have to pay attention to my eyes and control my emotions, because just a little off will not keep the gentleness of the character. The line between good and evil is actually very fragile.
Many actors who play evil roles have "cried help" because they were criticized by the audience and hated to spread in real life because of their characters. Have you ever been in trouble for constantly playing a villain role and being easily hated on screen?
- Luckily, I am still loved by the audience despite playing many villain roles. Many people say that watching the film I act in makes me feel like I am so evil that I can get goosebumps, but in real life, I still find it easy to love. About 20-30 years ago, artists who played villain were easily hated, sometimes being beaten because the audience confused the character and real life. At that time, there were not many means of connection, the audience could only see actors through the screen. Now, with the development of social networks, audiences can follow my life in real life, understand my true personality.
When I played Vu in come home, my child, people were impressed and often called me Vu. However, when I asked them if they knew my real name, they all said Quoc Truong's name. That is something I feel very grateful for.
Referring to the film "come home, my child", this is a resounding work that helped Quoc Truong shine. To this day, Vu's role is still a strong mark in his career. Will the success of this TV role put pressure on you in the following projects?
- I'm not pressured. I always believe that I work with the mindset of enjoying my work. I am not afraid that I am no longer famous, if the audience recognizes me on the street, I will be happy, if they do not recognize me, it is okay. I look at everything positively. For example, if someone recognizes me, I will be very happy because I am remembered, if no one cares, I feel relieved because I have a moment of peace, to be myself. Positive and negative are always parallel, the important thing is which angle you choose to look at it from.
I did not think: "Oh, Vu's role, how many people have cried for me, now no one cries for me anymore". But if you embrace that fear, it will torment you. For me, a successful artist needs to have a work for life and be loved by the audience.
Some people say that after becoming famous, Quoc Truong turned to business, became rich and prosperous, so he is no longer interested in acting. Looking back on his career, what has acting brought him?
- Thanks to the movie "come home, my child", I no longer act in TV series. Because that film helped me gain fame, my business career was... so successful. When my business is good, I am busy and do not have time to act in films. Not the "ball" from Vu's role, but just because I was busy. I couldn't leave the company and film for half a year.
However, it must be admitted that acting gives me everything I have right now. Since then, I have acted in films because of my passion, to enjoy art, there is no pressure to become more famous, to be hot like before.
At the age of 37, actor Quoc Truong has a career, is famous, has an appearance but is still single. What makes you still lucky even though you have almost everything?
- I am still waiting for someone with the same energy as me. Appearance just needs to be suitable for the age group and be attractive. But the important thing is to have a good heart. I hope the other half is a person who knows how to listen, observe and be tolerant. If she can't sympathize with me, it will be difficult to get along for decades.
Currently, I enjoy life, look at everything lightly and know how to accept. I am not in a hurry to get married or find the other half, fate will come to me.
