In the context that the Chinese TV drama market has not yet seen a truly breakthrough work, "Jade Axis" has received much attention thanks to its novel content and attractive cast.
The film revolves around Phan Truong Ngoc (played by Dien Hy Vi) - the daughter of a butcher - who accidentally saves Ta Chinh (Truong Lang Hach), a vassal who is in trouble. Because of personal calculations, the two decide to get married. However, from an arranged relationship, they gradually develop true feelings.
The noteworthy point of "Jade Axis" lies in the way of building the female lead character. Instead of the familiar image of a young lady, Phan Truong Ngoc comes from an ordinary, strong and realistic background. The image of her holding a scalpel, confidently affirming that she can take care of her own life, creates a different color compared to many romantic historical films before. Meanwhile, Ta Chinh is not only good at literature and martial arts but also has a calm and upright spirit.
The second half of the story pushes up the drama when the war setting appears. After the incident that caused Ta Chinh to disappear, Phan Truong Ngoc goes to the battlefield to search, gradually grow up and affirm her position. Letting the female lead develop independently, instead of just revolving around love, is considered a direction that suits the tastes of today's audiences.
Director Tang Khanh Kiet - who has made his mark with historical costume projects with positive feedback - took on the role of production director. This is considered a certain assurance factor for the quality of staging and film rhythm.
In terms of acting, Dien Hy Vi possesses a youthful appearance but is not lacking in personality. The sports background before entering the profession helped her create a convincing image of a working-class character. Meanwhile, Truong Lang Hach continues to promote her bright appearance advantage, suitable for historical films.
In addition to the main couple, the film also gathers talented actors such as Luu Lam, Diep To Tan and many other familiar faces, contributing to increasing the depth of the supporting line.
With the set broadcast schedule, "Axis of Jade" is expected to become the "dark horse" of March. Success or failure will depend on how the film maintains its narrative rhythm and avoids falling into the usual clichés of ancient costumes.
