On December 28, the Vietnam Folk Arts Association held a ceremony to celebrate the longevity of senior members; confer the title of Folk Artist; present awards in 2024; and present the 2024 Folk Arts Award.
This year, the Folk Arts Association received 85 works in 5 fields of culture and folk arts.
Prof. Dr. Le Hong Ly, Chairman of the Vietnam Folklore Association, said that the number of works submitted for the 2024 competition has increased compared to last year, including many in-depth research works. Some members submitted 2-3 works, and in particular, some members submitted 6 collections of works for the competition.
Based on the Award Regulations, the Preliminary Council selected 72 qualified works to submit to the Professional Council.
Among the 72 works eligible for the award, 19 are in the field of Literature and Folklore Theory (an increase of 20 works compared to 2023); 35 are in the field of Customs, Festivals, and Folklore Geography (25 works in 2023); 5 are in the field of Folk Performing Arts (3 works in 2023); 2 are in the field of Visual Arts and Folk Architecture; 11 are in the field of Culinary Culture, Traditional Crafts, and Folk Knowledge.
Compared to the 2023 season, this year the number of works submitted for consideration has increased significantly in the fields of Customs, Festivals, Folklore and Geography, in both areas: investigation, collection and research, introduction.
This year's works on ethnic minority folklore are mostly presented in bilingual form.
The 2024 Vietnam Folk Arts Association Awards have 1 First Prize, 1 Second Prize B, 5 Third Prizes, 14 Third Prizes, and 24 Consolation Prizes.

The First Prize was awarded to the work "Old traces halfway up the mountain - a region of Ca Dong identity" by member Nguyen Dang Vu. This is a large work, combining fieldwork, survey, research... carried out meticulously and scientifically.
With a rich source of documents, mainly collected from the field, spanning many years, the author provides a fairly complete picture of the culture of the Ca Dong people in Quang Ngai, from life cycle knowledge, agricultural knowledge to customs and practices, and spiritual concepts in human life.
This year, the number of works participating in the competition increased, however the number of works with low awards and those that did not win was also higher than in previous seasons.
According to Professor Le Hong Ly, the works are elaborate and of good quality, but the content is mainly in other fields, not much in folk culture and arts.
Some works in which the author only collects scattered articles, collects from published documents, or mixes them with newly collected works but has no source such as identity, age, address of the provider...
