Vietnam tourism explodes domestic tourism

Vietnam tourism grows from internal resources, Phu Quoc leads the growth ranking in Vietnam.

Traveloka - the leading integrated travel platform in Southeast Asia has just released the first Traveloka SEA Index report, a quarterly in-depth report on travel trends, built based on Traveloka's exclusive search, research and service booking data across Southeast Asia.

Ms. Huynh Thi Mai Thy, Country Director of Traveloka shared: "Traveloka SEA Index shows that in this quarter, Vietnamese tourists still prioritize destinations near home. While travel demand in other markets in the region is shifting to East Asia, tourism growth in Vietnam is still driven by coastal destinations, led by Phu Quoc, Con Dao, Hoi An and Da Nang. At the same time, international travel demand is also gradually increasing again: Bangkok is the most sought-after destination by Vietnamese tourists in this quarter, and tourists also tend to stay longer when coming here.

According to Traveloka SEA Index, while Southeast Asian tourists tend to flock strongly to East Asian destinations, Vietnam's tourism growth is mainly driven by the domestic market.

Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Da Nang continue to be the three destinations with the most bookings on the platform. In which, Ho Chi Minh City plays the role of the country's urban tourism center, with about one in five domestic tourist trips ending in the city. Hanoi maintains stable growth thanks to its advantages in culture, history and diverse service systems.

The most prominent is Da Nang, when it recorded simultaneous growth in many items, from room bookings, entrance tickets to family tourism. In particular, the number of Sun World Ba Na Hills entrance ticket bookings increased by 132% compared to the same period last year, reflecting the increasing attraction of the experiential ecosystem in this coastal city.

According to the Traveloka SEA Index - a measure of the growth rate of service bookings of a destination compared to the entire market - Phu Quoc leads with 100 points, and also recorded a 86% increase in service bookings compared to the same period. Followed by Con Dao (96 points), Hoi An (92 points) and Da Nang (88 points), showing that domestic tourism demand is strongly focused on sea destinations, a harmonious combination of resort and cultural experience.

Bangkok continues to be the international destination most searched by Vietnamese tourists in this quarter, with search volume increasing by 61% compared to the same period last year, showing that demand is still continuing to increase. Vietnamese tourists also tend to stay longer when coming here, with the average length of stay in Bangkok increasing from 3.2 to 3.6 nights compared to the same period last year. Singapore continues to be in the group of international destinations most booked by Vietnamese tourists, with growth momentum compared to the previous quarter being consolidated.
