On the evening of November 29, the 7th National Book Awards Ceremony 2024 took place at the Hanoi Opera House.
Attending the award ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia - Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department; Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung - Minister of Information and Communications; Mr. Le Quoc Minh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association... along with representatives of the Party and State leaders, authors, publishing units, bookmakers and book lovers.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Politburo member, Party Central Committee Secretary, Head of the Central Propaganda Department - Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized the importance of reading books: "The ancients have a saying "Thu trung huu ngoc", meaning there is precious jade in books. For thousands of years, books have been the valuable assets and treasures of knowledge of mankind. Books preserve and transmit cultural values through generations, creating a source throughout space and time, forming the personality and life values of each person.
Reading is the most effective way to enrich knowledge, train thinking ability, develop creativity, and nurture great dreams and aspirations. Through each page of a book, it helps us learn how to perceive problems and behave with a humane, responsible, sympathetic and understanding attitude towards each other."
Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia said that the National Book Awards over the past 6 award seasons have created great impressions, becoming an important event in cultural life, attracting the attention of not only authors and publishers, but also the public and readers nationwide.
At the 7th National Book Awards, the award ceremony on the evening of November 29 continued to be carried out with many innovations and creativity, with the highest goal of expressing love for books, respect, honor and gratitude to authors, translators and typical works.
This year, the National Book Awards organizing committee held a gratitude ceremony before the award ceremony to recognize and commend the great contributions of authors, translators, publishers, bookmakers, and businesses supporting the award.
Researcher Nguyen Dinh Tu arrived early, wearing a red ao dai and sharing his emotional feelings. He is 104 years old this year, the author of the book series "Gia Dinh - Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City: Long Mile of History (1698-2020)" which won the A prize this year.
Talking to Lao Dong reporter, researcher Nguyen Dinh Tu said he was honored and happy to receive the A prize of the National Book Award for the second time. It took him nearly 20 years to complete the book series on the history of Ho Chi Minh City because he has been attached to and familiar with this city all his life.
Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia expressed his respect for researcher Nguyen Dinh Tu: "Researcher Nguyen Dinh Tu is 104 years old, but he is still persistently devoted and devoted his life to a massive book series on history, culture, and geography. He is truly an example of scientific work and dedication, and an inspiration for the love of books."
In its 7th season, the National Book Awards divided works into categories: Political and Economic Books; Social Sciences and Humanities Books; Natural Sciences and Technology Books; Culture, Literature and Arts Books; Children's Books; Books loved by readers.
Based on the voting results of the National Book Award Council, the Department of Publishing, Printing and Distribution and the Vietnam Publishing Association compiled and presented to the Minister of Information and Communications and awarded prizes to 58 works.
Of which, there are 3 A Prizes; 10 B Prizes; 21 C Prizes; 21 Encouragement Prizes and 4 Readers' Favorite Book Prizes.
The National Book Award is given to books (book series) with outstanding value in terms of ideological content, knowledge, and aesthetics to honor authors, translators, scientists, and publishers, contributing to discovering, preserving, and promoting valuable works to a wide range of readers, promoting the publishing career to develop in the right direction and in line with the integration trend.
