Musician Huy Du used to be General Secretary of the Vietnam Musicians Association term III, National Assembly Deputy of term VII, term VIII, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Culture and Education term VIII. He used to hold the position of Vice Chairman of the Vietnam - China Friendship Association. It was not until 1990 that he officially retired.
Musician Huy Du's son is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huy Phuong. Currently, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huy Phuong is the Director of the Vietnam National Academy of Music.
When asked about his father, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huy Phuong said: "I am always proud to be the son of musician Huy Du - a person who dedicated his whole life and talent to dedicating himself to Vietnamese revolutionary music.

Every time he composed, my father would sit in the room for a long time, the room was always full of cigarette smoke. He just sat up and played the melody on the piano and then sang.
