Venezuelan President posts new photo in US prison

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro posted a new photo in US prison, sending a message to his family and supporters.

On August 30 (local time), TASS news agency reported that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, currently detained in a prison in the US, posted a new photo of himself in prison on his personal X social media page.

In the photo series, Mr. Maduro wears a gray sportswear, stands in front of a wall and smiles. This is one of the latest images of the Venezuelan leader since he was arrested by the US and taken out of the country.

Attached to the photos, Mr. Maduro sent words to his children, grandchildren and supporters.

A small gift of love and hope," Mr. Maduro wrote. The Venezuelan President said he wanted to send these images to grandchildren, children and "all those who love us".

He also affirmed: "We are still steadfast, with your hearts full of love.

On January 3, the US launched attacks targeting civilian and military facilities in the Venezuelan capital Caracas. US President Donald Trump said that Mr. Maduro and his wife had been arrested and taken out of Venezuela.

Two days later, on January 5, Mr. Maduro and his wife appeared before the US Federal Court in South New York District. The two faced charges related to drug trafficking and both pleaded not guilty.

On January 6, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez was sworn in as interim President of Venezuela.

Mr. Maduro's appearance in new photos has attracted attention in the context that Venezuela's political future is undergoing many changes after he was taken to the US.
