Lunar New Year is a time for gathering and resting, but it is also a time when many workers are easily "overloaded" due to irregular eating, excessive alcohol consumption and disrupted daily life.
These factors make the liver - the organ responsible for metabolism and detoxification - work at high intensity. Therefore, proactively taking care of and supporting the liver during Tet is necessary to protect long-term health.
Workers need to understand liver detoxification correctly. The liver has the ability to self-detoxify through complex biochemical processes. Therefore, no drink or food can "clean the liver" immediately.
It is important to reduce the burden on the liver. Workers should limit alcohol - the leading cause of liver damage, especially during year-end parties. Drinking in moderation, alternating filtered water and absolutely not drinking on an empty stomach is a basic principle.
The diet during Tet is often high in grease, banh chung, braised meat, and sweets. To support the liver, you should increase green vegetables, fresh fruits rich in vitamin C and antioxidants such as oranges, grapefruits, and dragon fruit. Supplementing with fiber-rich foods helps improve digestion and reduce metabolic pressure on the liver. At the same time, drink enough 1.5–2 liters of water per day to support the process of excreting waste through the kidneys.
Sleep also plays an important role. The liver is active at night, especially during the time frame from 11 pm to 3 am. Staying up late continuously during Tet will disrupt the circadian rhythm, affecting the recovery function of the liver. Workers should try to maintain a reasonable sleep time, avoid staying up too late for many consecutive days.
Gentle exercises such as walking, yoga, or home exercises will help workers increase blood circulation and support better metabolism. After the holiday, if signs such as prolonged fatigue, jaundice, loss of appetite, or pain in the right hypochondrium appear, you should see a doctor to check liver function instead of arbitrarily using "detoxifying" medication.
Liver detoxification during Tet is actually building a moderate lifestyle: Limit alcohol and beer, eat balanced, get enough sleep and exercise regularly. This is the most scientific and sustainable way to protect the liver, helping workers start the new year with stable health and a clear spirit.
