Mr. Kim Jong-un demands to use AI to increase the power of suicide UAVs

North Korean leaders want to increase the power of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) using AI, affirming their technological ambition in the strategic military field.

KCNA news agency said on September 19 that Mr. Kim Jong-un has directly supervised the testing of drones, including suicide UAVs, and requested capacity building by integrating artificial intelligence. He expressed his satisfaction with the test results and approved the plan to continue improving the capabilities of these vehicles.

During the inspection, North Korea tested a "Kumsong" tactical attack UAV model along with a strategic reconnaissance drone. According to KCNA, Mr. Kim Jong-un affirmed the role of new technology, emphasizing that artificial intelligence will be the factor that helps North Korea's UAVs achieve higher efficiency in combat.

Previously, in March, the North Korean leader also supervised a trial of a suicide UAV with integrated AI technology. This move shows consistency in the orientation of developing unmanned aerial vehicles, which is considered a spearhead in North Korea's defense strategy.

In parallel with military operations, Kim Jong-un also inspected the progress of a large-scale greenhouse farm in Sinuiju, a region bordering China, on the same day. KCNA said that this project is expected to contribute to ensuring food security for the people.

New developments show that North Korea is simultaneously promoting both the defense and people's lives, in which modern technology plays a central role. Integrating AI into suicide UAVs is considered by observers to be a strategic step forward, and also raises many concerns in the context of already sensitive regional security.
