On September 6, Russian President Vladimir Putin called on the leaders of the aerospace industry to continue efforts to develop a rocket engine to serve spacecraft launches, in order to maintain Russia's long-standing position in the field of space technology.
He made the statement during a visit to the city of Samara, where he met with experts and inspected the Kuznetsov Engine Manufacturing Department.
Mr. Putin affirmed that Russia is still a leading force in developing aerospace technology. He emphasized the need to regularly innovate missile engine production capacity, both meeting current and future domestic demand and reaching the international market to maintain competitiveness.
In the context of Western sanctions related to the conflict in Ukraine, Mr. Putin said that Russia has rapidly developed many types of innovative engines in the energy sector. These products are now widely used, especially in gas transport infrastructure. He also saw this as an important topic associated with promoting gas exports, including the "S upper Siberia 2" pipeline project to China.
According to Mr. Putin, this pipeline is beneficial for both Russia and China, and is an alternative solution when Europe tries to reduce its dependence on energy from Russia. He also mentioned the development of the PD-26 aircraft engine, which is expected to expand the potential for modernizing the military transport aircraft line as well as the new generation of wide-body civil aircraft.
