On the evening of July 13, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs informed about the coordination to support Indian citizens in the canoe capsizing incident in Phu Quoc.
Under the close direction of the Minister and Leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, functional units of the Ministry have urgently coordinated with An Giang province and ministries and sectors, actively supporting the Embassy and Consulate General of India in Vietnam to protect Indian citizens in distress and resolve and overcome the consequences of the accident.
In the afternoon of July 13, with the coordination of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs, Vietnamese functional agencies coordinated with the Embassy and the Consulate General of India to complete the handover procedures and bring the bodies of the victims onto the flight at 6 pm to India according to the wishes of the families.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs has also supported entry procedures for victims' relatives, and at the same time, worked with hospitals, forensic units and service units authorized by the Indian side, ensuring the reception, preservation, handover and repatriation of victims' bodies takes place quickly, in accordance with legal regulations, in accordance with customs, beliefs and the requests of the victim's family.
The Indian Embassy in Vietnam and the Indian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City highly appreciated the timely, professional, responsible and humane coordination of Vietnamese functional agencies, including units of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, An Giang province, and Phu Quoc Special Zone.
In the coming time, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs, the Consular Department - Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to coordinate with Vietnamese functional agencies and Indian representative agencies in Vietnam to complete procedures and support relatives of the injured who are being treated at Cho Ray Hospital.
Previously, on the afternoon of July 11, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs established 2 working groups to provide legal support and receive relatives of victims; established a 24/7 coordination mechanism with the Consular Department - Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government of An Giang province, Phu Quoc Special Zone, Vietnamese functional forces and the Indian Embassy in Hanoi, the Indian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City to promptly handle consular and funeral procedures and support relatives of victims.
On the evening of July 12, the bodies of 15 victims were transferred from Phu Quoc to Ho Chi Minh City and preserved at the City Forensic Center. The working group of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs was directly present and coordinated to handle procedures.
As Lao Dong Newspaper reported, at noon on July 11, the boat capsizing carrying tourists in the Hon May Rut Ngoai area, Phu Quoc special zone, unfortunately killed 15 people.
17 other tourists have been attentively cared for at Sun International Hospital in Phu Quoc. Among them, 16 tourists have been discharged from the hospital, their health is basically stable. Another 1 person was transferred to Cho Ray Hospital.
