Regarding the unfortunate waterway accident that occurred to the Indian tourist group at noon on July 11, an emergency meeting on July 12 took place between the High-Level Delegation of the Government of Vietnam, leaders of An Giang province, Phu Quoc special zone, along with the Embassy and Consulate General of India in Vietnam to urgently coordinate to overcome the consequences and provide maximum support to the victims and their families.
Attending the working session, on the Vietnamese side were Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Sang - Deputy Minister of Construction; leaders of An Giang province, leaders of Phu Quoc special zone, along with leaders of Naval Region 5 Command, Coast Guard Region 4 Command and related departments and agencies.
At the working session, on behalf of the government and people of An Giang province and Phu Quoc special zone, Mr. Ngo Cong Thuc - Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee sent his deepest condolences to the Ambassador, the entire Indian people and especially the families of the victims before the unexpected incident.
An Giang province affirmed that it has immediately implemented the best rescue, relief and medical measures for the victims in the incident. In addition to treatment, financial support and international diplomatic coordination are also being drastically and urgently implemented by local authorities.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang said that immediately after the incident occurred, General Secretary and President To Lam and Politburo member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung continuously gave close directions. The Prime Minister issued an urgent telegram requesting to mobilize all rescue forces, active medical care and close coordination with the Indian diplomatic mission.
Up to now, the preservation and transportation of the victims' bodies to Ho Chi Minh City has been completed. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs has also assigned officials to be on duty 24/7 to coordinate with service units to implement logistics procedures, ensure that the religious rituals of the victim's family are respected and create the earliest conditions to bring them back to the country. For relatives wishing to come to Vietnam, the Vietnamese Embassy in India will issue visas and support the fastest entry procedures, and the Vietnamese side is committed to covering all expenses for accommodation and travel throughout the stay.

Regarding the cause of the incident, Vietnamese functional agencies are urgently conducting a comprehensive investigation and are committed to regularly updating the results to the Indian side.
According to initial assessments from the Ministry of Construction and specialized agencies, this is a force majeure incident stemming from extreme weather suddenly changing direction in a narrow area and in a short time. Immediately after the incident, An Giang province also organized a comprehensive review of all waterway safety standards to ensure that similar cases do not occur in the future.
Speaking in response, the representative of the Consulate General of India acknowledged the efforts and support from Vietnam, especially the leaders of An Giang province and Phu Quoc special zone; highly appreciated the true spirit of friendship that Vietnam has given to Indian citizens. The Indian side deeply appreciates the support and extremely rapid response from Vietnamese functional agencies.
In the most painful circumstances, the coordination of responsibility and close affection between the Governments and peoples of Vietnam and India is a solid fulcrum to overcome losses together and continue to foster an increasingly comprehensive and humane strategic partnership.
