Lao Cai Department of Transport has just sent a report to Vietnam Inland Waterways Administration about 2 suction ships (transport ships of about 100 tons) drifting from China to Coc Leu bridge (Lao Cai city) but has not affected the bridge.
Accordingly, last night (September 9), 2 ships appeared in the Pho Moi bridge area, then drifted to Pho Lu bridge (Bao Thang, Lao Cai) and continued drifting to Yen Bai province.
At that time, water from upstream was pouring down, making rescue work and anchoring the ship difficult.
Meanwhile, according to the Vietnam Inland Waterways Administration, these are large ships and do not have the means to tow or anchor them in the current high and fast-flowing flood conditions. Therefore, the unit as well as related localities do not have enough capacity and equipment to handle the two ships.
To avoid affecting the structure of road and railway bridges, the Vietnam Inland Waterways Administration has sent a document requesting the Ministry of Transport to report to the Prime Minister to direct the Ministry of National Defense to take the lead in handling the matter.
