2,400 households in 6 wards and communes of Ho Chi Minh City are about to give up land to build 3 projects worth over VND22,000 billion

Ho Chi Minh City reclaims land from 2,400 households to renovate Ong Be canal, Ba Lon canal, expand Ton That Thuyet street - build a park along the Kenh Te bank, with a total capital of more than 22,000 billion VND.

The above three projects will be submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council for consideration and approval of the investment policy at the meeting on November 14.

Ba Lon canal project

The dredging and environmental improvement project combined with urban renovation of the Ba Lon canal drainage axis (through Binh Dong ward and Binh Hung commune) is the project with the largest total investment capital, more than 9,228 billion VND. Of which, compensation, support and resettlement costs account for VND6,682 billion, while construction costs are about VND2,000 billion.

The city will reclaim land from 378 households, of which 283 households have been cleared and 95 households are partially affected.

Ba Lon Canal is about 7.4 km long, starting from Kenh Doi Canal (Binh Dong Ward) to Ba Lao Canal (Binh Hung Commune).

The project will dredge the entire route, build a 9.9 km long embankment, open a new planned route of 12 - 18 m wide, build Ba Lon 2 bridge (40 m wide, 58 m long) with a synchronous technical infrastructure system including sidewalks, trees, lighting, drainage and wharves.

If approved, the project is expected to be implemented in the 2026 - 2029 period, completed and put into use in 2030. When completed, the project will improve drainage capacity for the basin by about 920 hectares, reduce flooding, prevent landslides, improve the water environment and contribute to the urban beautification of the South of Ho Chi Minh City.

Ong Be canal project

The dredging and environmental improvement project combined with urban renovation of the drainage axis of Ong Be canal (Chanh Hung ward and Binh Hung commune) has a total investment of more than VND 7,434 billion.

The project includes the main items: Dredging Ong Be canal for 4.2 km, building a 5.6 km long embankment to protect the shore, forming a new route according to the plan of 12 - 16 m wide, more than 2.4 km long, along with a system of sidewalks, railings, drainage, wharves, trees and lighting.

To implement the project, the city will reclaim land from 1,425 households, of which 1,224 households were cleared and 201 households were partially affected.

The project aims to enhance drainage capacity, reduce flooding for an area of 470 hectares, while improving the environment, beautifying urban areas along canals, creating ecological space and momentum for socio-economic development in the South of Ho Chi Minh City.

Expanding Ton That Thuyet Street and the park along the Kenh Te Bank

The project to build, renovate and expand Ton That Thuyet Street and a green park along the Kenh Te bank has a total investment of VND 5,621 billion, of which the cost of compensation, site clearance and resettlement accounts for more than VND 4,100 billion.

The project affects 598 households, including 461 households that have been cleared and 137 households that have been partially cleared. Khanh Hoi ward has 28 households, Xom Chieu ward has 126 households (100 households cleared, 26 households are partially affected), Vinh Hoi ward has 444 households (333 households cleared, 111 households are partially affected).

Ton That Thuyet Street (from Road No. 1 to Truong Dinh Hoi Street) is more than 3.4 km long and will be expanded from 7 m (2 lanes) to 27 m (6 lanes).

The project also builds a new bridge across Nguyen Kieu Canal (27 m wide), renovates and widens Nguyen Kieu Canal to 25 m, builds a system of embankment protection for Kenh Te and Nguyen Kieu Canal, arranges a boat dock, along with planned route No. 1 (185 m long, 28 m wide). In addition, the project will form a green park along the Kenh Te Canal.

Expected to be completed by the end of 2028, the project will improve central traffic, reduce congestion, connect main routes such as Nguyen Khoi, Ben Van Don, while creating a green landscape and improving the quality of life of people.
