This information is stated in the document of Tan Son Nhat International Airport sent to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province and the Southern Airport Authority, requesting coordination to prevent acts that threaten flight safety during take-off and landing.
According to statistics, since the beginning of the year, Tan Son Nhat airport has recorded 27 cases of air safety violations, an increase of 42.1% over the same period in 2024 (19 cases).
In particular, recently, Tan Son Nhat airport has continuously received notices from the crew about the discovery of drones and being chieu with laser lights into the cockpit, posing a great risk to flight safety.
In particular, at 6:10 p.m. on July 28, flight VJ309 from Da Lat to Ho Chi Minh City discovered a drone at an altitude of 2,000 ft, about 5 miles from the 25R wheel touching point.
At 0:40 on July 29, flight MU869 from Hangzhou (China) to Ho Chi Minh City discovered a drone at an altitude of 4,000 ft, about 15 miles from the 25R wheel touching point.
9:05 p.m. on August 1, flight VN7135 from Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City was chieu with a laser ray while at an altitude of 1,000 ft.
At 10:45 p.m. on August 1, flight VN608 from Bangkok (Thailand) to Ho Chi Minh City was also chieu with laser rays at an altitude of 1,500 ft, in the direction of 10 hours.
Immediately after receiving the information, Tan Son Nhat airport reported to the Southern Airport Authority and coordinated with local authorities to handle it according to regulations.
Tan Son Nhat airport said that projecting laser into the cockpit can cause glassy eyes, making pilots unable to observe, seriously affecting the control of the aircraft.
Meanwhile, illegal flycams or drones flying in prohibited or restricted flight areas are at risk of colliding directly with the aircraft, leading to air incidents or accidents. In addition, acts of releasing kites and balloons near the airport area also have similar potential risks.
To prevent this, Tan Son Nhat airport recommends that the People's Committees of localities and the Southern Airports Authority increase propaganda so that people clearly understand the dangers of laser projects, kite flying, balloons or illegal use of drones and flycams near airports.
At the same time, direct the police, militia and mass organizations to monitor, supervise and strictly handle violations; closely coordinate with aviation agencies to promptly verify and investigate when detecting unusual incidents.
