According to historical documents, Ha Giang province was established on August 20, 1891, including Tuong Yen and Vinh Tuy district (Tuyen Quang province). Before the August Revolution in 1945, Ha Giang had 4 continents and 1 town (Bac Quang, Vi Xuyen, Dong Van, Hoang Su Phi, Ha Giang town).
On March 23, 1959, President Ho Chi Minh signed an order to merge Ha Giang province into Viet Bac Autonomous Region.
With Tuyen Quang province on 4.11.1831 when King Minh Menh divided the administrative geography within the country, Tuyen Quang was established as a provincial administrative unit.
Up to now, Tuyen Quang province has had more than 190 years of establishment, while Ha Giang province also has more than 130 years old.
On December 27, 1975, at the 2nd session, the V National Assembly decided to merge two provinces of Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang into Ha Tuyen province.
After 15 years of consolidation, Ha Tuyen province has achieved many results of socio -economic development and national defense and security. However, because Ha Tuyen province has a stretched terrain, the population is unevenly distributed, unfavorable natural conditions lead to difficulties in the process of implementing innovation.
On that basis, Ha Tuyen province proposed to the Central Government to be separated, so that Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang returned to the old administrative boundary.
After the Politburo agreed, on August 12, 1991, at the 9th session, the 8th National Assembly decided to separate Ha Tuyen into two provinces, named Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang. At the end of September 1991, the separation of Ha Tuyen province into two provinces has basically completed.
On October 1, 1991, agencies of Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang province officially came into operation. This is also taken as the re -establishment of these two provinces.
Currently, Tuyen Quang province has an area of more than 5,876 km2 and a population of about 800 thousand people. Ha Giang province has an area of more than 7,929 km2 and a population of nearly 900 thousand people.

Thai Nguyen province also has 194 years of development. In the 12th year of Minh Menh (1831), Tran Thai Nguyen became Thai Nguyen province with 2 governments and 9 districts.
In 1900, the Governor -General of Indochina issued a decree separating a part of Thai Nguyen province to establish Bac Kan province with 4 continents. Up to now, Bac Kan has had 124 years of establishment.
During the anti -American resistance war, before the requirements of political tasks, on April 21, 1965, the National Assembly Standing Committee approved the consolidation of two provinces of Bac Kan and Thai Nguyen into Bac Thai province.
Next, on December 29, 1978 at the 4th session, the 6th National Assembly decided that the two districts of Ngan Son and Cho Dau (now Ba Be) in Bac Thai province were separated and entered Cao Bang province.
In the period of national construction and development, before the requirements of the new situation, on November 6, 1996, at the 10th session, the 9th National Assembly issued a Resolution of Bac Thai province to re -establish Bac Kan and Thai Nguyen province. At the same time, transferring 2 districts of Ngan Son, Ba Be's Ba Be's province to Bac Kan province.
On January 1, 1997, was considered the re -establishment day of Bac Kan and Thai Nguyen province.
Currently, the area of Thai Nguyen province is more than 3,562 km2, a population of nearly 1.3 million people. Bac Kan province has an area of 4,859 km2 and a population of nearly 314 thousand people.
