Regarding the fact that about 400 workers at the Da Phuoc Waste Treatment Complex (also known as the Da Phuoc Waste Treatment Complex in Da Phuoc Commune, Binh Chanh District) have not been paid their salaries and bonuses before Tet, leading to a work stoppage, causing a traffic jam of garbage trucks on the evening of January 23, a VWS representative said that after a meeting with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on the afternoon of January 24, the company received a portion of the payment from the city.
Thanks to this amount, VWS paid the entire 13th month bonus to all employees on the same afternoon. This is a timely move, helping to ease some of the difficulties for employees during the upcoming Tet holiday.
However, VWS representative also said that January salary has not been paid yet and the company is trying to arrange payment for employees after Tet.
“Currently, the workers at our company have stabilized their mental state. This has partly eased the difficulties of workers preparing for Tet,” said a VWS representative. The company is also continuing to negotiate with Ho Chi Minh City on paying the remaining debt to ensure full payment of salaries to workers.
Earlier, at around 7 p.m. on January 23, hundreds of garbage trucks were unable to enter the Da Phuoc Waste Treatment Area, forming a long line outside, causing traffic congestion. The incident lasted for several hours, causing frustration for drivers and concerns about the impact on the city's garbage collection on January 24.
The cause was determined to be that hundreds of VWS workers had temporarily stopped working to demand their salaries and Tet bonuses. On VWS’s side, the company said that the delay in salaries and bonuses was due to Ho Chi Minh City’s delay in paying for waste treatment over the past 7-8 months.
The timely payment of Tet bonuses to VWS workers on the afternoon of January 24 helped stabilize the situation, ensuring that the city’s waste treatment operations were not interrupted during Tet. However, the issue of full salary payment to workers still needs to be resolved by relevant parties.
