On May 28, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction said that it is accelerating procedures to start construction of 7 steel overpass projects this year, to be completed in 2027.
3 steel overpasses in the center of HCMC
In the inner city area, Ho Chi Minh City will invest in building a steel overpass at the Nga 6 Cong Truong Dan Chu intersection in the direction of Vo Thi Sau street to 3 Thang 2 street.
The project is about 253 m long, 8 m wide with a total estimated investment of more than 281 billion VND. Nga 6 Cong Truong Dan Chu is the intersection of 3 Thang 2, Vo Thi Sau, Cach Mang Thang Tam, Ly Chinh Thang, Nguyen Phuc Nguyen and Nguyen Thuong Hien streets, so it is often congested during peak hours.

The city will build a steel overpass on 3 Thang 2 street intersecting with Le Dai Hanh street. The project is about 480 m long, 9 m wide, arranged with 2 mixed lanes with a total investment of more than 404 billion VND.
Another steel overpass is also being built on 3 Thang 2 street intersecting with Ly Thuong Kiet street. The project has a similar scale, about 480 m long, 9 m wide, including 2 mixed lanes with a total estimated investment of more than 404 billion VND.
Building overpasses in the Binh Duong area before
In the Binh Duong area, Ho Chi Minh City previously planned to build a steel overpass at the intersection of Cach Mang Thang Tam street and Huynh Van Cu street (Thu Dau Mot ward).
The project has a width of 11 m, a bridge length of about 300 m, and a road section at both ends of the bridge totaling 320 m with a total investment of about 260 billion VND.
This is an important connecting axis between National Highway 13, Phu Cuong Bridge and many other main traffic routes. While the land fund is limited and it is difficult to expand the road surface, the solution of building a steel overpass here is considered necessary and urgent to reduce congestion.
3 overpasses on National Highway 51 and DT. 994C
In the Ba Ria - Vung Tau area, the city previously planned to invest in 3 steel overpasses.
The overpass on National Highway 51 at the intersection with Phuoc Binh road, the border area between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province, is 18.5 m wide, the length of the bridge section is about 280 m, the bridgehead road is 150 m long on each side with a total investment of about 430 billion VND.
The second overpass is located on National Highway 51 at the intersection with road B1 leading to My Xuan B1 Industrial Park. The project has a similar scale with a total investment of about 430 billion VND.
The city will also build a steel overpass on DT. 994C route at the intersection with 30.4 road (AO Ong Tu area). The project is 18.5 m wide, the length of the bridge section is about 280 m, the bridgehead road is 150 m long on each side with a total investment of about 430 billion VND.
The Department of Construction assesses that the area along National Highway 51 and DT. 994C currently concentrates many industrial parks, urban areas and sea tourism routes, so traffic pressure is increasing.
The investment in steel overpasses is expected to help divert traffic, reduce congestion, improve traffic safety, and at the same time increase transport efficiency, exploit the potential of sea tourism and strengthen connectivity in the Southeast region.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, in the period 2010 - 2020, many steel overpasses were built and put into operation at major intersections such as Hang Xanh, Thu Duc intersection, Nguyen Kiem - Pham Van Dong, Cay Go, Lang Cha Ca, Hoang Hoa Tham, Nguyen Tri Phuong - Ba Thang Hai - Ly Thai To and Go Vap roundabout.
In which, in some areas such as Go Vap roundabout, Cay Go roundabout, Hang Xanh and Thu Duc intersection, traffic congestion has decreased by about 70-80% compared to before the construction of the steel overpass.
