DNA sample collection activities are organized synchronously in many localities in the province, with close coordination between grassroots police, local authorities and specialized units.
During the implementation process, the Police force conducted a review of the list of relatives of unidentified martyrs, prioritizing taking samples from people with close blood relations such as biological mothers, biological fathers, biological siblings or relatives of the same lineage. Biological samples are collected according to strict procedures, ensuring accuracy, safety and in accordance with professional regulations. For elderly and weak people who cannot come directly, working groups will go to their homes to take DNA samples, ensuring convenience for relatives of martyrs and families with meritorious services to the revolution.
At the sampling points, police officers directly guided people to complete dossiers, provide information related to relatives of martyrs and clearly explain the purpose of building a DNA data bank. Many families expressed their emotion when participating in the program, because this is not only a scientific activity but also opens up hopes of finding the identity of relatives who sacrificed many years ago. Up to now, nearly 200 DNA samples of relatives of martyrs have been collected, mainly Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and Mothers of Martyrs.

Colonel Nguyen Nhat Truong - Deputy Director of An Giang Provincial Police said: The collection of DNA samples is the first step in the process of building a gene database for relatives of martyrs nationwide. After completion, the DNA samples will be transferred to specialized agencies for analysis, storage and comparison with martyrs' remains currently buried at martyrs' cemeteries nationwide.
Currently, in An Giang province, there are still many martyrs' remains whose identities have not been identified due to lack of information or lost records over time. Therefore, the application of DNA technology in identity verification is considered an important, modern and highly feasible solution, contributing to restoring the names of heroic martyrs, helping families alleviate the pain of waiting for many years.
In the coming time, An Giang Provincial Police will continue to coordinate with relevant units to expand the collection of DNA samples for the remaining 3,300 martyrs' relatives, striving to complete the data in the most complete way in July 2026. At the same time, promote propaganda to help people understand the meaning of the program, actively participate in providing information and supporting functional agencies in the verification process.
The collection of DNA samples for thousands of relatives of martyrs in the past and future time proves the efforts, responsibility and determination of the An Giang police force in the journey to find the identity of the outstanding children of the nation who bravely sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
