Keeping the forest associated with creating livelihoods
After the merger, Dam Rong 4 commune has more than 90% of the population being ethnic minorities, with livelihoods mainly based on agriculture and forests.
According to Secretary of the Party Committee of Tran Phu Vinh commune, the locality determines that poverty reduction must be linked to creating jobs, stable livelihoods, improving income and limiting re-poverty.
One of the great advantages of Dam Rong 4 is its large forest area. The locality currently manages nearly 33,000 hectares of forest, not to mention the area managed by the Da Nhim Forest Management Board.
Over the past time, the policy of contracting forest protection has created more jobs and revenue for many ethnic minority households.
People both participate in protecting forests, protecting water sources, and have additional income from paying forest environmental services.
In particular, in the Dung K'No area, about 95% of the population is K'ho people. People are participating in protecting more than 17,500ha of natural forest belonging to the Lang Biang World Biosphere Reserve.
According to local leaders, forest protection not only contributes to preserving the ecological environment but also opens up opportunities to develop new livelihood models, associated with ecotourism and indigenous resources.
In the 2025-2030 term, Dam Rong 4 continues to mobilize people to change their production thinking, promote the advantages of land, forests and culture to gradually increase income and stabilize life.
Diversifying livelihoods, limiting re-poverty
The development of ecotourism and community tourism associated with forest landscapes and indigenous culture is considered a potential direction.
If appropriately invested, people can participate in providing unique services and products, thereby increasing income but still ensuring the goal of forest protection.
Vice Chairman of Dam Rong 4 Commune People's Committee Nguyen Van Quang said that the locality is implementing poverty reduction in the direction of creating livelihoods, improving the quality of human resources and ensuring social security.
Policies on health, education, social insurance and care for vulnerable people are implemented synchronously, helping people access essential services and limiting the risk of re-poverty.
From capital from national target programs, the locality has supported 124 ethnic minority households to develop mulberry growing and silkworm farming models and 10 goat farming households, helping to diversify livelihoods and increase income.
In addition, the commune is completing procedures to build a model of growing medicinal herbs under the forest canopy, and at the same time researching tourism development associated with forest resources and indigenous culture.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Quang, sustainable poverty reduction must be linked to job creation, capital support, technical transfer and care for education, health, and people's lives.
People have jobs and stable incomes, so their lives are improved, thereby contributing to maintaining security and order in the area.
This is an important foundation for the locality to achieve the goal of sustainable poverty reduction" - Mr. Quang said.
With advantages in forests, land and cultural identity, Dam Rong 4 is aiming for economic development associated with resource protection, creating more livelihoods and improving the lives of ethnic minorities.
