Strengthening environmental treatment at An Hiep landfill
For many years, An Hiep landfill has been continuously complained about by people about environmental pollution, leachate and landslide risks. On May 9, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Tri Quang and leaders of relevant departments and agencies surveyed the actual situation in this area.
According to the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, from January 1, the management and operation of An Hiep landfill was transferred to the provincial level for management. Up to now, the receipt and treatment of domestic waste of 16 communes and wards has been maintained stably and continuously.
To improve operational efficiency, functional sectors deploy many key tasks such as treating generated leachate, expanding the phase 2 rainwater drainage system and covering tarpaulins, closing some garbage ponds in the garbage dump area.
At the same time, specialized agencies are developing a project to relocate households and residential areas to ensure safe environmental distance. The environmental dossier for An Hiep landfill is also being urgently completed to serve long-term management.

For the An Hiep landfill expansion project phase 3 with a scale of 6.68ha, the province is currently implementing the selection of construction contractors. After completing compensation and handover of land, new landfills are expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
Along with operational work, the province also deploys temporary reinforcement works for the Ham Luong riverbank erosion in the landfill area. Investment procedures for long-term erosion treatment projects are also being promoted to limit the risk of environmental pollution.
According to functional sectors, the volume of waste received at An Hiep landfill is increasing, putting great pressure on the existing treatment system. Therefore, expanding the landfill and improving operational efficiency is considered an urgent task in the current period.
