Since then, Binh Tu landfill (Tien Thanh ward, Lam Dong province) has just been closed for several months, and has had to receive and treat household waste for wards and communes in the area. Binh Tu landfill has been in operation since 1999, with a total area of over 26 hectares, receiving about 350 tons/day.
It is noted that the road leading to Binh Tu landfill is a dirt road with many potholes, stagnant black water giving off a foul smell. People in areas near the landfill have to live with the stench. Especially in the rainy season, the strong stench flies, causing environmental pollution and the risk of water pollution.
Ms. Le Thi Thanh Thuy - Director of Binh Thuan Urban Environment and Services Joint Stock Company - said that currently, Binh Tu landfill is not managed by the company, so there are many sources from other places to dump waste here. Previously, the landfill was managed by the People's Committee of the old Phan Thiet city. Since the operation of the 2-level government model, landfills have become "public" and there are many other sources to dump waste. The infrastructure is also degraded.

In addition, the landfill is now very high. The company can only handle the spraying and spraying. Currently, the company is asking the Provincial People's Committee for funding to rebuild the access road to the landfill and dig additional holes to dump garbage.
To reduce the dust situation, many people set fire, causing the landfill to burst into flames. The amount of rainwater flowing over is naturally drained according to the slope of the area, leading to a great risk of environmental pollution of the downstream surface water.
Previously, Binh Tu landfill was approved to invest in an environmental pollution renovation and treatment project with the main item of building a landfill with an area of about 6.3 hectares. After completion, the project will remove points that cause serious environmental pollution, and improve the landscape of the environment to be green, clean and beautiful. The landfill will close at the end of 2024.
According to Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, Binh Tu landfill is overloaded, causing environmental pollution in the surrounding area, affecting people's lives and tourism development in the province.
Mr. Nguyen Hong Hai - Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee - emphasized that relevant departments, branches and localities must determine to speed up the implementation of related procedures to soon put the Hong Son solid waste treatment area project into operation. This project will solve the amount of waste that must be brought to Binh Tu landfill for treatment.
Accordingly, Hong Son solid waste treatment area has been agreed on the policy of choosing a location in Hong Son commune, with an area of over 20 hectares. Hong Son solid waste treatment area is being updated in the national power development plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, land use planning, construction planning, ...
The Provincial People's Council approved the list of Hong Son solid waste treatment area projects subject to land acquisition in 2025 and included them in the list of land areas for investment project bidding using land in the province.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Mr. Nguyen Hong Hai directed that the People's Committee of Hong Son commune promptly approve the detailed planning of the solid waste treatment area and conduct a survey, select a consulting unit, develop an estimate, review the commune's resources, and budget estimates to establish an investment policy for balance and implementation.
In addition, the locality coordinated with relevant units to review and draw up a schedule for the implementation of the solid waste treatment area project and send it to the Department of Finance for synthesis and reporting to the Provincial People's Committee.
