Over the years, Ho Chi Minh City has today risen to become the economic locomotive of the country, maintaining its pioneering role with a stable annual contribution of about 1/5 of GDP and more than 1/4 of the total national budget revenue. Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc expressed his pride when the city has been accompanied by the business community for half a century. Citing the remarkable progress of the non-state economic sector, Chairman Nguyen Van Duoc said that if in 1985, the total production value of this sector only reached 8.6 billion VND, by 1995, the figure had skyrocketed to 15,402 billion VND - nearly 1,800 times after a decade. Currently, the business and entrepreneur force in Ho Chi Minh City has contributed more than 50% of GRDP, accounting for 67% of total social investment capital and about 25% of the city's total import-export turnover.
Many businesses have been steadfast over the past four decades, building reputable brands that are familiar to consumers. Not stopping at the domestic market, the city's enterprises are gradually affirming their position in the international arena. Ho Chi Minh City leaders affirmed that they will continue to promote institutional reform, improve the investment - business environment, especially in the fields of green transformation, digital transformation and international integration.
