Storm No. 10 causes damage of more than VND 2,100 billion, Nghe An focuses on overcoming the consequences

Nghe An - Localities, units and people are urgently mobilizing all resources to overcome the consequences of storm No. 10, quickly stabilizing life and production.

On October 3, information from the leader of the People's Committee of Tan Ky commune (Nghe An) said that the locality is facing a historic flood after storm No. 10, with more than 2,000 houses flooded and nearly 10,000 people having to evacuate.

"Rescue work is being carried out very urgently, but due to the large flood, it is very difficult to overcome the consequences, the damage cannot be fully counted" - said the leader of Tan Ky Commune People's Committee.

Nghe An Provincial Civil Defense Command said that up to now, storm No. 10 has killed 4 people and injured 14 others. The whole province had 74 collapsed houses, more than 1,500 damaged houses, 61,000 houses with unroofed roofs, and nearly 58,000m of fence collapsed.

The education sector had 45 flooded schools, 332 schools had their roofs blown off, and were damaged with more than 1,100 classrooms and many teaching equipment severely damaged. The health sector was also affected when 37 facilities were damaged. In agriculture, more than 20,000 hectares of crops were damaged, nearly 400,000 poultry and 1,200 livestock were swept away, thousands of barns, fish ponds, and shrimp ponds were damaged.

Traffic and irrigation infrastructure was severely damaged with nearly 500m of sea dykes, more than 1,000m of embankments, 26,000m of canals and ditches eroded; 29 traffic jams, dozens of bridges for people were washed away. More than 4,000 power poles fell, 82km of power lines were broken, causing hundreds of thousands of households to lose power. The total estimated damage in the area is over 2,100 billion VND.

To overcome the consequences, nearly 28,000 military officers and soldiers, more than 4,200 police officers and tens of thousands of local forces were mobilized to provide relief, evacuate people, open traffic routes, and rebuild houses.

Nghe An Power Company received support from 9 other provinces with 687 human resources, urgently restoring power supply. Telecommunications enterprises also mobilized nearly 700 human resources to fix the signal loss incident.

The health sector has established working groups to go to the grassroots, handle environmental sanitation, prevent epidemics; the education sector has mobilized staff, teachers and parents to clean up mud, repair schools, and prepare students to return to school. Thousands of union members, youth, militia and people participated in cleaning up and preventing epidemics after the storm.

Forces of the Department of Construction, the Department of Culture - Sports and Tourism, and local authorities simultaneously launched a campaign to rebuild houses, repair public works, and divert traffic at flooded and landslide areas. Thousands of cadres, union members, youth, and militia also participated in environmental sanitation, clearing fallen trees, and preventing diseases arising after floods...

Mr. Le Hong Vinh - Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee said: "Storm No. 10 caused huge damage, the province directed localities and units to implement the 4-on-site motto, actively provide relief, and prioritize ensuring the safety of people's lives. The province regularly closely monitors and urges the work to overcome the consequences, to soon stabilize people's lives and production".

Consecutive storms No. 8, 9, 10 and floods caused by the storm have killed 19 people and many people are missing. Many houses and production and business establishments had their roofs blown off and suffered heavy damage. People across the northern and central mountainous provinces are struggling to cope with floods and heavy losses in human lives and property due to floods and thunderstorms.
