The Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control said preliminary damage caused by storm No. 3 as of 1 p.m. on September 7.
In Quang Ninh and Hai Phong, storm No. 3 caused 5 cement ships and 1 small wooden ship to sink at their anchorage (Quang Ninh); 146 trees to fall (Quang Ninh 100; Hai Phong 46); 2 low-voltage power poles and 1 transformer station were damaged (Hai Phong); Cam Pha and Van Don districts (Quang Ninh) suffered widespread power outages.
In Hai Phong City, there are many fallen trees and electric poles blocking the roads, hindering traffic. People are advised not to leave their homes before 8:00 p.m. on September 7. Families with level 4 houses, corrugated iron roofs, and 10-meter walls should prepare for possible roofs and walls being blown off, endangering their lives.
With wind force, direction and wave surge, Nam Dinh is the locality with the highest risk in this storm in terms of sea dike safety.
Thai Binh, Nam Dinh and Thai Binh provinces have not recorded any damage.
According to Lao Dong, there was heavy rain in the Northeast region, some places had very heavy rain such as Cua Ong (Quang Ninh) 113mm, Cam Pha (Quang Ninh) 110mm.
Throughout Cam Pha city, trees fell, electric poles were broken everywhere, and corrugated iron roofs were blown away by the wind.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the eye of the storm at 4:00 p.m. today was approximately 20.8 degrees North latitude; 107.1 degrees East longitude, on the coastal area of Quang Ninh - Hai Phong.
The strongest wind is level 12-13 (118-149km/h), gusting to level 16. It is forecasted that in the next 3 hours, the storm will move in the West Northwest direction, at a speed of about 15-20km/h.
