On March 17, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai province said that in the past time, the conservation and protection of biodiversity at Kon Ka Kinh National Park and Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve has been strengthened.
According to statistics, from 2025 to now, functional forces have detected 10 violations related to the management and protection of wild animals and migratory birds. Of which, 2 cases have been prosecuted, and 6 cases have been administratively fined with a total amount of more than 20.5 million VND.
At the same time, 222 bird individuals of all kinds were confiscated. In addition, on March 11, 2026, a new case was discovered and is currently in the process of handling according to regulations.
To protect forest animals, especially species on the red list, Gia Lai province has established a hotline to receive feedback from the people. Propaganda work focuses on raising people's awareness, especially at markets, shopping spots, restaurants, and eateries at risk of consuming wildlife.

In 2021, the Kon Ha Nung Plateau Biosphere Reserve, including Kon Ka Kinh National Park and Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve, was recognized by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve. This area covers an area of more than 400,000 hectares and has hardly been affected by exploitation or deforestation.
Some forest areas in Gia Lai are currently being leased for ecotourism development, exploration, experience and participation in payment for forest environmental services.
In addition to animal protection activities, functional agencies also organize many releases of endangered and rare forest animals back to nature. The Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms (Kon Ka Kinh National Park Management Board) has released a series of individuals including: land pythons, Java pangolins, large land turtles and border mountain turtles back to nature.
The individuals are all in good health after being received for rescue and are carefully cared for by center staff according to procedures.
To protect the natural ecosystem of special-use forests, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoan - Deputy Director of Gia Lai Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment has sent an official dispatch requesting units such as the Sub-Department of Forest Protection, the Management Board of Protection and Special-use Forests, and the People's Committees of communes to strengthen the prevention and handling of illegal exploitation and trading of Sterculia lychnophora fruit and Xoay fruit.
Sterculia lychnophora and Xoay fruit have long been considered local specialties, mainly distributed in remote natural forests in Kbang, Son Lang, and Dak Rong communes of Gia Lai province. In the season, people living near the forest often gather in groups to pick ripe Sterculia lychnophora and Xoay fruits.
It is worth mentioning that these fruits often grow on trees tens of meters high. People not only climb but also cut branches, even cut down trees to make harvesting more convenient.
Recently, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Duc Thang requested units and localities to continue to maintain inspection and handling activities to prevent the trading and captivation of wild animals; hunting, trapping, and catching migratory birds; and exterminating aquatic products.
Organize commitments not to hunt, trap, buy, sell, or store wild animals for households, business owners, restaurants, eateries and agricultural product collection points...
