In the afternoon of March 15, 2026, Politburo Member, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung conducted a strategic exchange with Politburo Member, Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Wang Yi on the occasion of the 17th Meeting of the Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation and the first Conference of Strategic Dialogue at the level of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, National Defense, and Public Security of Vietnam - China.
Minister Le Hoai Trung expressed Vietnam's belief and support for China to develop strongly and make more important contributions to peace, stability and development in the region and the world; affirmed that the Party, State and people of Vietnam always consider consolidating and developing relations with China as a strategic choice, top priority in Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, multilateralization, and diversification.
Minister Wang Yi affirmed that China always supports the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam led by General Secretary To Lam to lead Vietnam to continue to achieve many new and greater achievements; ready to work with Vietnam to strengthen strategic trust, develop together, and bring practical benefits to the people of the two countries.

Unanimously assessing the very positive and comprehensive progress of Vietnam-China relations in the past time, the two Foreign Ministers agreed that the diplomatic missions of the two countries need to closely follow the high-level common understanding, continue to closely coordinate and effectively implement the deep work of the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, promote the building of a Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future of strategic significance in the "6 more" direction; prepare carefully for high-level and all-level exchanges and contacts; accompany ministries, branches, and localities to create new breakthroughs in substantive cooperation, bringing the relations between the two Parties and the two countries to a new height.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung proposed that the two sides improve the quality and effectiveness of substantive cooperation in all fields, promote balanced and sustainable trade, maximize imports of goods, especially Vietnamese agricultural products; accelerate strategic connectivity; strengthen high-quality investment, promote technology transfer in industrial cooperation, closely coordinate to ensure energy security; increase the number of scholarships for Vietnam, focusing on industries such as basic science, high technology....
Minister Le Hoai Trung also proposed that the two sides further encourage substantive cooperation between localities, strengthen tourism cooperation, strive to further increase the number of tourists to each country; further promote cultural cooperation between the two countries.
Highly appreciating the cooperation proposals of Minister Le Hoai Trung, Minister Vuong Nghi emphasized that China is ready to closely coordinate to effectively implement the high-level common understanding; and requested the two sides to promote economic - trade and investment cooperation.
China is ready to encourage large and powerful businesses to expand investment in Vietnam; will provide more bilateral and multilateral scholarships for Vietnamese students; and further promote cultural, educational and tourism exchanges.
The two sides exchanged sincerely and frankly on issues at sea and international and regional issues of common concern.
