As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, from December 2020 to the end of October 2024, Ho Chi Minh City will collect hourly parking fees on 20 routes, earning VND 22.04 billion, but operating costs will be up to VND 24.32 billion, leading to a loss of VND 2.28 billion.
On March 28, Lao Dong reporters directly recorded the actual toll collection on these routes.
At noon on March 28, at the car parking lot with a fee on Le Lai Street (District 1), the locations were almost full. Many drivers have to move to other routes to find parking space.

The same situation also occurs on toll collection routes such as Thu Khoa Huan and Hai Ba Trung (in front of Le Van Tam Park), when the number of cars parked here is quite large.

However, not all routes implement fee collection effectively. On Phan Chu Trinh Street (up the side of Ben Thanh Market), the number of cars parked is very small.
The reason is that spontaneous motorbike parking lots are encroaching, customers' motorbikes are parked on the road and take up parking space.

Notably, An Duong Vuong Street (District 5) - where there are many car parts stores - also implemented parking fees in both directions. However, many stores here have turned the roadway into a repair area, replacing spare parts.
Shops staff even set up chairs on the road to greet customers and chase cars that needed parking, with the reason of "arbitrarily stopping business".

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, since August 2018, the city has begun collecting hourly parking fees on 23 streets in Districts 1, 5 and 10. The fee is adjusted to increase to 20,000 - 25,000 VND/hour, instead of 5,000 VND/trip as before.
To date, the number of toll routes has decreased to 20, with a total of 879 parking spaces. The fee collection is organized by Youth Volunteer Public Service Company Limited, with the expectation of collecting about 6.7 billion VND per month (equivalent to 80 billion VND/year).
However, in reality, the amount of money collected is not expected, and there are times when it is not enough to cover operating costs.

According to the report of the Department of Transport, the total revenue from December 2020 to October 2024 is about 22.04 billion VND, while the total cost of organizing toll collection is up to 24.32 billion VND - exceeding the expenditure by 2.28 billion VND.
Phase 4.12.2020 - 30.6.2022: Revenue of more than VND 4.31 billion, expenditure of VND 8.67 billion (losure of VND 4.3 billion).
Phase 1.7.2022 - 30.6.2023: Revenue of more than 5.94 billion VND, expenditure of 6.67 billion VND (losing 0.7 billion VND).
Phase 1.7.2023 - 31.3.2024: Revenue of more than 6.75 billion VND, expenditure of 5.27 billion VND (profit of 1.5 billion VND).
Phase 1.4.2024 - 30.10.2024: Revenue of more than 5 billion VND, expenditure of 3.71 billion VND ( profit of 1.3 billion VND).
