Gia Lai - 9-year-old girl dies from rabies, after 2 months of being bitten by dog but not vaccinated against the disease.

On August 11, leaders of Canh Vinh Commune People's Committee (Gia Lai province) confirmed that a case of a baby girl dying from rabies had just occurred in the area.

The victim is D. B. T (born 2017, residing in Quang Hien village, Canh Vinh commune), who died at 4 am on August 10, after developing rabies and being taken to Gia Lai Provincial Central General Hospital for treatment.

According to Gia Lai Provincial Central General Hospital, on the afternoon of August 9, baby T. was admitted to the hospital in a state of high fever, fear of wind, fear of water, fear of noise, fear of light, accompanied by panic and agitation. Through examination, the patient was diagnosed with rabies in a fully developed stage.

According to information from the victim's family, around June 10, baby T. was bitten on the heel and scratched on the face by a local dog, causing scratches on the skin. However, the family did not take him for rabies vaccination.

After the incident occurred, Canh Vinh Commune Health Station cordoned off cases of contact with baby T., and at the same time requested families to take their children for health check-ups and implement disease prevention measures according to instructions.

Baby T. is the youngest daughter in a family of 3 sisters. The victim's family is in difficult economic circumstances.

Leaders of Canh Vinh Commune People's Committee said that the locality has visited and supported the family to take care of the funeral for the victim.

Since the beginning of 2026, this is the 3rd death from rabies recorded in Gia Lai province.
