According to people's reflections, starting from January 1, 2026, ferry terminal No. 2 connecting Tan Chau ward (An Giang province) with Long Khanh islet (Long Khanh commune, Dong Thap province) stopped operating. The interruption of this ferry terminal has caused many difficulties in the lives and livelihoods of people and small traders on Long Khanh islet.
According to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters' notes on the afternoon of January 6, ferry terminal No. 2 is the shortest and most convenient route for people in Long Khanh islet to the Tan Chau ward area for trading and trade. When this ferry terminal stopped operating, people in Long Khanh islet had to go around to Bo Dap ferry terminal, and then continue through ferry terminal No. 3 to get to Tan Chau ward for trading.
Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc Lanh (resident of Long Khanh commune, Dong Thap province) complained: "Previously, it only took me about 15 minutes to get to the market. Now the ferry terminal has stopped operating, if I want to trade, I have to go around to Bo Dap ferry terminal, then continue through ferry terminal No. 3 to get to the other side of the river. The road is longer, costing more money and time.
Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh shared: "People in Long Khanh islet mainly live on small-scale trading. Ferry terminal No. 2's suspension of operation greatly affects people's lives. Having to go around two ferry terminals, including Bo Dap ferry terminal and ferry terminal No. 3, is both far away and time-consuming, and also incurs additional travel costs.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters by phone on the afternoon of January 6, Mr. Du Thanh Hung - Chairman of Long Khanh Commune People's Committee (Dong Thap province) - said that ferry terminal No. 2 was organized by Tan Chau Ward People's Committee for auction exploitation. However, because the winning bidder had not been selected, the ferry terminal had to temporarily stop operating. Long Khanh Commune People's Committee has announced the incident so that people can understand and proactively move through Bo Dap ferry terminal.
Regarding this issue, Mr. Nguyen Van Doan - Chairman of Tan Chau Ward People's Committee (An Giang province) - said: "The reason is that ferry terminal No. 2 has not been auctioned for operation in 2026. In the immediate future, the locality will consider temporarily extending the license so that ferry terminal No. 2 can resume operation this week, creating conditions for people to travel and trade.
