After the People's Committees of Binh Quoi Ward and Thu Duc Ward issued a decision to extend the operation of the passenger wharf across the Binh Quoi River, on the morning of December 13, the Binh Quoi ferry wharf (Binh Quoi Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) officially resumed operations after more than a year of suspension due to legal procedures related to land.
According to Lao Dong Newspaper in the morning of the same day, hundreds of customers were present at the wharf early to cross the river, to Thu Duc ward. Many passengers expressed their excitement when the ferry terminal was reopened, making travel more convenient.
Having to travel more than 12 km by road from Binh Quoi ward to Thu Duc ward to work, Mr. Tan Thanh (Binh Quoi ward) could not hide his joy when from now on he does not have to spend nearly 1 hour every morning to get to work.
"My children and I look forward to the ferry terminal reopening every day so that we can go to work and pick up and drop off our children to school more conveniently. Before, when the ferry was no longer operating, it took me 40 - 50 minutes to travel by road every day to get to work, not to mention traffic jams and congestion during rush hour, it was very difficult," said Mr. Thanh.
Sharing the same excitement, Ms. Nguyen Huynh Tho (Binh Quoi ward) shared: "Hearing the news of the ferry terminal operating again, I was very happy. Because the two children are students at home, every morning we have to call them up early to go to school because the road is far away, now that the boat is available, my family is a little more relaxed. Hopefully the ferry terminal will be extended for a long time so that we can move conveniently".
Previously, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued an official dispatch agreeing on the policy of allowing the passenger wharf across the Binh Quoi River to continue operating for 12 months, in order to meet the travel needs of the people and contribute to reducing traffic congestion in the area. On that basis, the People's Committees of Binh Quoi Ward and Thu Duc Ward issued decisions to extend the wharf operation.
In which, according to the decision of Thu Duc Ward People's Committee, the wharf is located at km 25+800 to km 25+820 of Saigon River. The project has a concrete sloped roof structure, the exploited water area is 20 m long and 30 m wide from the edge of the shore.
During the extension period, the wharf owner must fully comply with the regulations on inland waterway operations according to Decree 08/2021 and amended documents. Vehicles put into operation must be registered and inspected; the driver must have a suitable license; absolutely do not carry overload and must be fully equipped with life jackets and floating tools for passengers.
The company must also ensure environmental sanitation, fire prevention and fighting safety, flood and storm prevention and take full responsibility if an incident occurs.
