Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters on January 16, Mr. Le Minh Truyen - Deputy Director in charge of the Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects for Agricultural and Rural Development in Ben Tre Province - said that the putting into operation and use of projects including: Road project to the Storm Shelter for Fishing Boats combined with Ba Tri Fishing Port; infrastructure project for high-tech shrimp farming area in Ba Tri district; Chau Ngao Bridge construction project; infrastructure construction project to serve sustainable economic development for people in coastal areas of Ba Tri to adapt to climate change; coastal erosion prevention project in Ba Tri district and Storm Shelter for Fishing Boats combined with Ba Tri Fishing Port, Ben Tre province will not only promote sustainable development of the fisheries industry but also create stable livelihoods for people.
In addition, it also contributes to increasing income, improving the quality of life and preventing coastal erosion, protecting mangrove forests and responding to climate change, which are also implemented synchronously, helping to ensure national defense and economic stability in coastal areas.
According to Mr. Truyen, in the planning of Ben Tre province for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, Ben Tre has identified developing to the East as an important strategy to exploit the maximum potential of the marine economy. Strong investment in transport infrastructure, storm shelters, fishing ports and seafood processing areas... not only improves production capacity but also creates conditions to promote trade, regional connectivity and seafood export, contributing to improving the lives of coastal people. In addition, it also contributes to creating momentum in developing the fisheries industry and marine economy in a sustainable direction, associated with ensuring national defense and security in coastal areas.
Mr. Nguyen Van Buoi - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ben Tre province - said that the province's brackish water shrimp output in 2024 is expected to reach 155,000 tons. Of which, 91,000 tons will be raised using high technology with a farming area of 3,633 hectares. According to the plan, by 2025, Ben Tre strives to reach 4,000 hectares of high-tech shrimp farming and increase to 5,800 hectares by 2030.
"Putting the above projects into operation will contribute to creating momentum and opening up opportunities for strong socio-economic development, improving the material and spiritual life of coastal people," Mr. Buoi informed.
According to the Planning of Ben Tre province for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the eastern coastal area of the province (including Ba Tri district, Binh Dai district, Thanh Phu district and the marine space within Ben Tre province) will be the driving force for the province's development, with breakthroughs in marine economic sectors, prioritizing the development of the following sectors and fields: industry; renewable energy, clean energy; aquaculture, exploitation and processing of seafood in the direction of high technology; maritime economy (sea transport); services and tourism; entertainment, golf courses; development of industrial parks and clusters; construction of green, smart, sustainable urban areas associated with biodiversity conservation and marine ecosystems; ensuring harmony between conservation and development.
