On June 21, the Border Guard Command of Duong Dong Port Border Gate (An Giang Provincial Border Guard) said that the unit had just rescued a Cambodian man drifting in the Phu Quoc sea area.
Specifically, at 10:45 am on June 20, receiving a report from people informing that a victim was carrying a plastic can drifting in the sea area of Duong Dong (Phu Quoc special zone). The unit deployed forces to use canoes to search for the victim.
By 11:25 am, the unit had found and recovered the victim who was holding a plastic can drifting at sea, about 2 km from the coast of Quarter 2 Duong Dong.
Initial information, the man's name is Thon Chhay (born 2005; Cambodian nationality).
Immediately after recovering the victim, the search team took him to his unit, with a military medical team taking care of his health. Currently, this person has stabilized his health and is eating normally.
Through initial information, Mr. Thon Chhay presented that he came from Kom Pong Thom village on a fishing boat without a number, 9m long, engaged in fishing net fishing with the owner of the fishing boat.
The two people who drove the fishing boat to Kong Pong Som to fish until 11 pm on June 19, 2026, while fishing in the Kong Pong Som sea area, encountered big waves and the fishing boat sank. Mr. Thon Chhay hugged a plastic can drifting at sea until the unit picked it up, and the boat owner currently has no information.
Currently, the unit continues to monitor, support, and handle according to regulations.
