On August 31, at the regulating lake of Central Park, also known as Bong Son Lake, in Thanh Sen ward, Ha Tinh province, mass fish deaths appeared.
According to records, the carcasses are mainly tilapia and field tilapia, floating on the water surface, concentrated in strips stretching tens of meters along the edge of the lake.
Many fish carcasses have begun to decompose. Hot weather causes a strong stench to spread, flies cling around the area, affecting the landscape and environment.
Some people said that the phenomenon of fish deaths appeared from the afternoon of August 29. However, at that time, there were still few dead fish and scattered on the lake surface.
By August 30 and 31, after heavy rains, the number of dead fish increased rapidly and became denser. Waves caused fish carcasses to drift to the edges of the shore, forming clusters.
People believe that the cause may be related to the weather. Previously, the area experienced many days of intense heat, then turned to heavy rain. Sudden temperature changes can shock fish, prevent them from adapting in time, and also change the amount of oxygen in the water.
However, this is only the assessment of the people, there is no official conclusion on the cause of fish deaths.
People hope that the local government and functional agencies will soon inspect and organize the salvage and collection of dead fish for treatment, to limit the stench and avoid affecting environmental sanitation.
According to local people, in previous years, this regulating lake also experienced mass fish deaths after prolonged heat waves and then heavy rains.
