On the afternoon of July 18, a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper at Nam Ly Lake (Dong Hoi Ward, Quang Tri Province) showed that many dead fish carcasses floated white on the lake surface, giving off a foul smell.
The dead fish were mainly male catfish, of all sizes, drifting down to the end of the lake. Ms. Bui Thi Nga - a trader near the lake - said that the phenomenon of dead fish has appeared for a few days now, usually in the early morning.
"Every morning, I see fish dying, after the workers have picked them up, they appear again the next day," Ms. Nga said.

Mr. Le Cong Kim - Director of Dong Hoi Parks and Trees Center said that the unit has mobilized workers to collect dead fish twice a day to minimize pollution.

However, the number of dead fish every day makes the collection necessary to be carried out continuously. According to Mr. Kim, the initial cause may be due to sudden changes in the weather.
To date, more than 100kg of dead fish have been collected. The authorities are monitoring the developments and will take measures to handle them if the situation continues.
