On August 26, the Nam Quang Tri Special-use Forest Management Board confirmed that it had coordinated with relevant units to release rare turtles back into the natural environment.
Previously, on August 21, Mr. Le Van Chau (residing in Co Thanh village, Trieu Phong commune, Quang Tri province) voluntarily handed over a turtle to the People's Committee of Trieu Phong commune.
Mr. Chau discovered this turtle in his garden during the heavy rain in June 2025. After a period of research, realizing that this was a rare animal, he proactively reported and handed it over to the locality.

Through inspection, Trieu Phong Forest Protection Department and Livestock & Veterinary Station No. 8 determined that this is a Nui Vien turtle (Manouria impressa), weighing 3.1kg, with stable health, belonging to Group IIB in the List of endangered, precious and rare species prioritized for protection.
Next, the People's Committee of Trieu Phong commune coordinated with the Forest Protection Department and the Nam Quang Tri Special Forestation Management Board to release the turtle back into the natural environment.
