Can Tho - At Tran De Fishing Port, the authorities monitor 24/24 hours, check records and output, and ensure transparency in seafood exploitation.

Recorded at Tran De Fishing Port (Can Tho City), which is in the peak period of fighting illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU), the inspection and supervision of fishing vessels entering and leaving the port is strictly implemented.

The Port Management Board coordinates with the Fishing Guard and Border Guard to be on duty 24/7, requiring fishermen to declare output, submit fishing logs and closely monitor seafood unloading activities.

Fisherman Vo Hoang Anh said that all fishing vessels entering the port must notify at least 1 hour before the time of arrival. This information will be checked and compared with the VNFishbase Fisheries Database, the VMS, the list of IUU fishing vessels and vessels at high risk of violations. Ship are only allowed to unload aquatic products if they meet all conditions, under the close supervision of Port and IUU Team officials. The process of controlling ships leaving the port is also carried out similarly.

"Strictly implementing the control process helps fishermen feel secure in exploiting and unloading aquatic products transparently, reducing the risk of unfair handling and contributing to protecting aquatic resources," said Mr. Hoang Anh.

Mr. Nguyen Dang Luan - Deputy Director of the Tran De Fishing Port Management Board (Can Tho City) said - Supervision work at the Port has been implemented synchronously. When a ship proposes to dock, the Management Board will compare the list of ships in violation or at risk of violation. If it is a violation, it will not be allowed to be unloaded, and at the same time, it will be reported to the authorities for handling. For high-risk vessels, the port allows them to dock but informs the force to check and handle them according to regulations. Cases that do not violate are arranged to dock and unload aquatic products under the supervision of officers. If the actual output difference of over 20% compared to the declared output is detected, the Management Board will coordinate with the IUU Team to make a record and report to the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Control of Can Tho City for handling.

According to Mr. Luan, the control work at Tran De Fishing Port not only ensures the legitimate rights of fishermen but also contributes to transparency of output, protection of aquatic resources and effective IUU prevention.

The Tran De Fishing Port Management Board said that from the beginning of the year to mid-November 2025, 4,156 fishing vessels have been loaded, with a total output of 74,082 tons. The Port fisheries Control Team (IUU Team) conducts 24/24 hours of inspection and supervision of fishing vessels entering and leaving the port. To date, the team has inspected 13,384 ships, of which 7,594 have arrived at the port and 5,790 have left the port.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City, as of November 14, all 784 fishing vessels have been managed on the national databases VNFishbase and VNeID, with a total capacity of 207,631 CV. Of which, 341 vessels with a length of 15 meters or more and 47 vessels serving fishing logistics have installed voyage monitoring devices (VMS) and displayed them on the system of the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Control.

The monitoring, inspection and control contents include unloading aquatic products through fishing ports; fishing vessels arriving and leaving ports; fishing vessels entering or leaving Border Control Stations; fishing vessels that lose connection to monitoring journeys (VMS); fishing activities at sea and at fishing ports.

Accordingly, all fishing vessels leaving the port must have 100% of their records, licenses, VMS equipment checked and have their actual checks before leaving the port. For ships docking at port, the authorities will check all ships with a length of 24 m or more; Smaller ships are randomly inspected at a minimum rate of 20% for tuna fishing vessels, 10% for trawlers and 5% for other occupations; fishing vessels that show signs of violating regulations on illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing will be handled.
