On July 24, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Tran Van Lau signed and issued a Directive on ensuring environmental sanitation, urban aesthetics, traffic safety and disease prevention and control in the city.
Accordingly, Directors of departments, Heads of agencies, departments and Chairmen of People's Committees of communes and wards must proactively implement tasks according to their fields and areas of responsibility. From now until the end of 2025, the city will focus on implementing many key tasks.
In the urban area, the Department of Construction is required to review and implement local flood prevention solutions during the storm season; strictly inspect and handle cases of construction that are not in accordance with regulations, encroaching on the roadway, sidewalk, causing water drainage obstruction and affecting urban aesthetics.
At the same time, review and allocate traffic flow appropriately, avoid congestion, especially during rush hour; replace damaged traffic signs, repair damaged routes and potential traffic accident points; promote the effectiveness of hotlines so that people can reflect on traffic in a timely manner; ensure safety at inland wharves, ferries and wharves; advise on the development of traffic culture projects (with annual roadmaps and goals).
The Department of Agriculture and Environment is assigned to manage the water environment, especially surface water in canals; propose solutions to treat wastewater and solid waste in rural and suburban areas; limit water pollution during the rainy and stormy season; coordinate the treatment of waste, ensure hygiene and aesthetics.
The Department of Health shall preside over monitoring and early detection of epidemics, especially infectious diseases during the rainy and stormy season; organize environmental sanitation campaigns, kill mosquito larvae, spray chemicals to kill mosquitoes, and strictly implement the Prime Minister's Official Dispatch No. 116/CD-TTg dated July 20, 2025 on dengue prevention and control.
The Department of Finance coordinates to advise on allocating funds to serve environmental protection, urban infrastructure maintenance, disease prevention and control.
Can Tho City Police are assigned to ensure security and order, strictly handle violations of the environment and urban order; promptly review and replace damaged traffic signs that cause confusion for traffic participants.
The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism actively integrates environmental protection and disease prevention propaganda into cultural, sports and tourism activities to raise public awareness; do not littered, do not encroach on sidewalks and sidewalks, do not leave garbage in the "watering" of drainage ditches.
The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City directs the organization of volunteer activities, general environmental sanitation, clearing sewers, and propaganda to mobilize people to actively participate.
The People's Committees of communes and wards must proactively develop plans to organize general cleaning, collect waste, clear streams, canals, and clear forest dust. Localities need to review, reasonably divert traffic, replace damaged signs, and promote hotlines to receive feedback. At the same time, ensure safety at wharves, ferries, inland waterway wharves and regularly check and report difficulties in implementation; organize communication in accordance with local actual situations.
The Directive requires reporting the implementation results to the City People's Committee before August 15, 2025 for timely synthesis, monitoring and direction.
