On July 23, at the meeting with businesses and investors in 2025, many businesses made recommendations to the leaders of Can Tho City about problems in the land sector.

A representative of Vinataba - Philip Morris Company Limited said that the 20,000m2 production expansion project in Cai Rang district was approved by the People's Committee of Can Tho City (old) in 2014, and has completed compensation of more than 18.3 billion VND. However, the project is still stuck in procedures for adjusting investment certificates, leasing land and updating planning. The enterprise hopes to be resolved to continue the project after more than 10 years of stagnation.
Some other enterprises also made recommendations related to applying the land price list, leasing of alluvial land, water surface land, the situation of Con Son landslides and leasing of land for medicinal plant cultivation in Vinh Chau.

Responding at the meeting, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City Ngo Thai Chan said that he had noted the opinions of Vinataba - Philip Morris enterprises and invited the enterprises to the Department to discuss details because land lease is very complicated.
Regarding Con Son landslides, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has received instructions from the City Party Secretary and is planning to survey and include them in the city's landslide prevention list.
Regarding the proposal to lease land for growing medicinal plants in Vinh Chau, Mr. Chan said he was very happy because this area has long been mainly planted with purple onions, a type of plant that uses many waters, which can affect local groundwater sources.
Regarding the land price list, Mr. Chan said that the Department has advised the City People's Committee to allow continued use of the old 3 price lists of Can Tho City, Hau Giang and Soc Trang until the end of 2025, while waiting for the construction of a new land price list.

Speaking at the conference, Central Party Committee member and Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee Do Thanh Binh requested relevant departments and branches to promptly coordinate to resolve the proposal of Vinataba - Philip Morris: "This issue has been going on for too long, it needs to be resolved completely, not to repeat it at the next meeting", Mr. Binh suggested.
Regarding the waste treatment project, the Secretary of the City Party Committee requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment and relevant sectors to urgently consider the need for modern technology treatment and investment.
For Con Son, Mr. Binh requested to review the planning, if it has been planned, implement it, if not, do it immediately; at the same time, thoroughly resolve the problem of clean water, electricity and landslides here.
Mr. Binh also emphasized that after the merger, to develop the new Can Tho City, it is necessary to review the planning and unify it into a common plan instead of maintaining the 3 old plans, it is necessary to invite international experts to advise.

The Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee called on the business community to continue to promote the spirit of self-reliance, creativity, learning, improving governance, promoting the application of science and technology, green production and sustainable development. Enterprises need to pay attention to building brands, business ethics, responding to the campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods" and participating in social and charitable activities.
The Secretary suggested that businesses and cooperatives continue to give advice and comments frankly to the city government and promptly reflect difficulties to receive support.
On the government's side, he requested to thoroughly grasp the important role of the private economy, enhance dialogue, and promptly remove obstacles for businesses. Heads of agencies need to effectively implement policies, improve public service responsibility and reform administration. At the same time, strengthen the connection between the government and associations and business associations to act as a bridge to effectively resolve practical problems.
In his opening speech, Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City Tran Van Lau emphasized that this is the first conference after Can Tho City officially operates under a new administrative unit, demonstrating its commitment to accompanying businesses. He hopes to receive many frank comments so that the city can perfect mechanisms and policies, create a more favorable investment environment, and contribute to building Can Tho into a national growth zone, leading the Mekong Delta by 2030.
